Any Galactic Civillisation fans out here

Post by pagroove »

Just bought this online from http://www.galciv2.com/ in the Ultimate bundle with the Twilight of the Arnor Expansion pack. Wow this game is one big bang for the buck. It's Civ2 like but with more costumization and a very nice interface, ship designer etc.

Great game
High rated on Gamespot.com USER score too.

So are here any Galciv 2 fans too?

I was a massive GalCiv 1 fan, but stopped playing when I ditched Windows for Linux. I really miss it, but it doesn't run under WINE.

I also really wanted to play their Sins of a Solar Empire.

Well I can say thats it's just brilliant. How brilliant? Then read this blog:

It's VERY customizable. I created my own Cylon race with it and having a difficult but interesting game atm.

The blog was a good laugh, and it's just my type of game...

I've been out of the loop for too long, I see!
You know those who, having been mugged and stabbed, fired, dog run over, house burned down, wife eloped with best friend, daughters becoming prostitutes and their countries invaded - still say that "all is well"?
I'm obviously not one of them.

Yes and the blog has it right!

The AI is very mean and clever. It will back stab you all the time.

Thinking about the blog, I came to the conclusion that guy was playing with the Argentinians
If not: they've got a mouth bigger than the world and won't tolerate being pushed, but despite that their toponomy is all about blood and battles, when pressed to raise to their words... no go. Unable to be the strongest in the 'hood, they tried to become a technological pole - only to complain that Brazilian refrigerators were driving their own firms out of the home market. And finally, the only way to ever fulfil their high opinion of themselves is to become real gods...

To the Yanks out there: I like to make fun of national templates and to stir the consciousnesses (often on the wrong targets, those intelligent enough to differentiate sarcastic scorn of national prejudices and misconceptions from real mindless zealot propaganda) - it was the Argentinians' turn to be stung, but you guys are always easy targets. Could it be time to reform your nation? In case of doubt, break glass.

Today I won a game by a diplomatic victory. I had Alliances with all galactic nations except the Drengins. So everybody went at war with the Drenings. When they where destroyed I won because I had an alliance with everyone. Real nice that the AI is doing the dirty work!

Now someone who does an Oolite mod for the game?

This is a very nice game. Also have their Sins of a Solar empire. A difficult but rewarding game.
