Frame Rate In Short Range Map

Post by WillASM »

First of all I must say thank you for recreating a part of my Past!
Very well done! True to the original in most respects (I originally
played the C64 version), but with the added features the game is
still just as addictive. On a side note, I Finally reached ELITE status
in Oolite :D And now I have time to post a few questions.

Currently I'm running 1.71.2 under Windows XP SP2 and when switching
to the short range map my frame rate drops from a steady 66 FPS
to 5-7 FPS. This happens both while docked and while in space. This
also occured with version 1.71.1

I just tried this with no addons installed and I get slightly higher frame
rates, around 12 FPS Still a significant drop though..

Note that I tried this with the latest nvidia drivers installed with the
same results. Has anyone else seen this or not?

Thanks Again, WillASM

Can't help - just wanted to congratulate you on reaching Elite!

I'm presuming the game does some kind of checking when you switch to sr map - you don't specify your PC spec (cpu, memory, gfx) others, more clued up than I will almost certainly as for such details.

v.1.70 had a nasty memory hole that eventually ate up all system RAM, but I believe that got plugged in newer versions.

This is not related to a memory leak. I believe that (once again) it is the game creating system information for all systems. This information is needed when you press 'I' in order to switch to the correct icons. When I get some free time (famous last words), I may have a look at it. But it is not priority 1 at the moment, because the short range chart is basically a static screen and you can always use the mouse to double click on planets for info instead of moving the cursor using the keyboard controls.
