Oolite 1.71.2 on a laptop?

Would V1.71.2 be any good on a laptop? The specs are

IBM ThinkPad T43
1.86GHz dual core processor
512MB Ram
ATI Mobility Radeon X300
33.3GB Hard Drive

Oolite generally runs quite well on a laptop. But I think the performance will be below average on the spec you are proposing. The Radeon X300 is at the (very) low end of the graphics cards' performance scale.

Given the beautiful graphics on 1.71.2 what can I do to make everything run smoothly. Upgrading the graphics card is an option I suppose as the machine was cheaper than a rust bucket Cobra Mk1. What sort of laptop graphics card would be ok?
