I'm afraid to say that I'm currently with the majority in that I just use the Docking Computer. I'm still building up my stash/pile of gold, so I get a bit impatient.

I agree that an external view of auto-docking would be a groovy addition. 8)

We need a speed limit inside the bay.
We have one.

With fuel injectors, ones speed is much more limited than, say, hyper-speed. And, with a space station or planet in range, one cannot engage hyper-speed.

As such, I always dock *much* slower at a station than I do at a rock hermit. Not that I give myself enough room to get up to full hyper-speed, as a collision at that speed is game over. As a result, I tend to only have about a km to accelerate.

I used to keep it real and burn in at full speed with flashy hard turn and twist right into the docking bay, but now I'm even more impatient and just hit "Shift-D" to auto-dock without the sequence. I was using "C" for a little while to dock while reading and posting messages, but it takes too dang long.
