Ad-Astra - big galaxy, Elite flight model

Post by dajt »

Hi,

I've just stumbled upon a game called Ad-Astra while poking around with a personal project.

It is meant to be a Frontier-like galaxy but with an Elite style flight model.

Great idea, but it is a bit rough to play. Still, the guy put a lot of work into it so deserves some credit!

Regards,
David.

I have seen this being discussed on other boards, too. It looks very promising. I have not had a chance to give it a go yet, but it certainly seems impressive, considering it's a one-man project.

Looks very promising. :D

But, as ever so often, PC only. :(

I've played it this night

It's what Frontier should have been (almost) Graphics are very good. And the detail put into the game is quite amazing. The generated planets look good and are random generated. The planetary landing is great. When you are low enough you can see birds and animals, animated volcanos, the sea etc.

You can even design planet textures in game.
Played it for one hour. Extensive manual too.

Till now I'm totally amazed by this game.
But of course my hart is with Oolite. Making Oolite better and more varied is fun.

Are there cities, and people on the streets? If so, can you incinerate them with your thrusters?
You know those who, having been mugged and stabbed, fired, dog run over, house burned down, wife eloped with best friend, daughters becoming prostitutes and their countries invaded - still say that "all is well"?
I'm obviously not one of them.

that'd be awesome, fly in and obliterate structures, have the people run about and fry them as you do a NotE strafe then go back and shoot their cat. could have a goal to destroy every living thing on a planet.

Isn't it curious how satisfying 'competing to be the most being outrageous' can be...

Brings back memories of 'seeing how high up a wall you can project your urine', with bonuses for anyone who could get it out of those tiny slit windows just below ceiling height...
Very funny, Scotty, now beam down my clothes...

No, that's what's called "making your own entertainment". It's what young people had to do before MyFace and BeBook and all this electronic nonsense, back in the good old days...
