Sung's textures
I've been browsing through the board, drooling over the guy Sung's ship/space station/planet textures.
Someone PLEASE tell me how I can import them into my Oolite.
It's exactly what I'm looking for to improve the game (in my humble opinion - I know they aren't to everyone's taste...)!
Cheers!

IIRC, Sung withdrew his work when people noticed their resemblance to some other space-faring game...

Touching the hot piece of something there
Uhm, sorry, but does this have to be cooked up again now? I was only an observer when the ... misunderstandings ... happened, but the way I saw it was that Sung created great graphics that some people liked and others didn`t.Sung withdrew his work when people noticed their resemblance to some other space-faring game...
The people who didn`t like them were a bit rough, Sung was rather easy to offend. It spiraled and Sung withdrew his stuff. Which was a sad event. The graphics were very Oolity and looked good.
I would find it a better idea if someone asked Sung nicely to republish his textures (I could & would do it, for example) and that all sides would leave this very unnescessary mess behind.
Just my 2cents
a bit

PS: By the way, also like your variants. Gonna have a closer look at them very soon

Alas, things were said, things were misunderstood and things were done with good intentions that were misconstrued and as a result Sung withdrew his textures.
Contact the chap and see if he would, if not make the textures available again, at least send you a copy.

Er... Well, I'm not too sure that he was THAT offended...
Armed with a little knowledge of German, and Google, I found this...
http://www.schmucker-info.homepage.t-online.de/
Surely, if he was really upset, these wouldn't be so easily available?
I've downloaded them, and just installed them, and they look magnificient!
Now I just need to improve the planets and space stations, and I have a rather fine-looking game!

I think you must also remove the star64.png.CaptKev wrote:If your running 1.70 you may need to remove galaxy256.png
Also there is a conflict with sungs dark_metal.png. This texture is used mainly for the entrance of stations. So sung change it with a lovely texture that looks very nice for the entrance of dodos. But unfortunately the texture is used for rock hermits and also for turrets in capital ships (Thorgon battle cruiser ect). The result in those cases is not so emm... let’s say nice.
So the trick is to
1. Rename sung's dark_metal.png into dock_metal.png
2. Create a models subfolder (inside your addons directory or inside the sungstextures.oxp directory if you are going to use it as an oxp) and inside that folder copy dock.dat and dock-flat.dat and then change the texture name in those two files from dark_medal into dock_metal like that:

Oh wow! These are really nice.
Would it be hard to make an .OXP that randomised between these textures and the default ones?
Not looked at making one yet, but I've got to start somewhere, and this is probably one of the simpler ways to start.
What on earth were people saying to annoy him after making such nice textures?

A pretty definative list of all OXPs and mods are linked on the Wikki OXP PAGE (including Sung's textures). The link from this page is either direct (if the OXP is stored on the wiki or Oosat) or to a site where you can grab it. DO look here for OXPs as Oosat 1 and 2 have not been updated for over a year. Everything that is on Oosat 1 and 2 is linked here, but there is loads of stuff not available on Oosat that you can get on the OXP page of the Wiki. The Wiki cannot store stuff over about 2 megs, so many links are external.
If you know of links to other OXPs and mods could you add them to the Wiki at this page? I've listed the OXPs I know of in aphabetical order with a short descriptive comment, but it would be handy if others added stuff to this page, as I'm sure there are a few lost gems floating around. This is the place to go now to find stuff :-

If you really want to know, search the board archives and read what happened. Re-airing the issues would not be helpful. (Please take this as a hint from your friendly board admin, so he can stay friendly.)Ace Garp wrote:What on earth were people saying to annoy him after making such nice textures?

The main thing you could learn from this should be: Don't ask questions you can most easily answer yourself.Leroy Boyce wrote:Er... Well, I'm not too sure that he was THAT offended...
