rolling left and right too much
Hello hello,
I just started playing oolite last night and i freakin love it. i got to deadly on elite on the bbc b when i was a kid, then the computer died.
so, anyway, i have a problem. i'm playing with the keyboard controls but all of a sudden, i think after installing some oxps, my controls have gone a bit funny. i read an earlier post in here that described a similar situation. basically, when i roll left or right, the ship keeps rolling a while after i release the key. i dont think it used to do that. i tried changing the key config as suggested in the post i read but it didnt help. any ideas?
i'm running v1.65. heres the response from the old post i read. it makes sense to me but i cant find key yaw left and right in my key config in notepad:
Easily fixed by editing your key config, the guys here sorted me out when i had the same problem.
{
key_roll_left = 44;
key_roll_right = 46;
key_pitch_forward = 115;
key_pitch_back = 120;
key_yaw_left = 253; // left arrow
key_yaw_right = 252; // right arrow
Open it up in a text editor and make the above changes and you'll have standard BBC keys with the rudder on the left and right cursor keys.
I hope someone can help. anyway, i can tell this game is going to be taking up alot of my time so i'll no doubt be on here again soon. thanks alot to everyone involved in creating the game and the oxps, its a beautiful, beautiful thing

Welcome to the game!
Assuming your on a higher version than 1.65, when you change something, you need to hold down the SHIFT key whilst Oolite loads up for the first time after you made the change (keep it held down until you see the rotating Cobra Mk III of the start screen. This updates Oolite's cache. If you don't Oolite still reads the OLD version, so your changes are not read. Give it a try, this time holding down the SHIFT key.
EDIT : Oops sorry, re-read your post. You are on 1.65! Give it a go with re-building the cache anyway, but the changes look ok. I don't think pitch and yaw are valid in 1.65 (think they came in a later version), so maybe just change it back to the old version.

Right, the were added after 1.65. But one can leave them in. 1.65 will just do nothing with it.LittleBear wrote:I don't think pitch and yaw are valid in 1.65 (think they came in a later version), so maybe just change it back to the old version.
UPS-Courier & DeepSpacePirates & others at the box and some older versions

Pitch has always been there. It would be very hard to play the game only using roll.
I suspect what you’re seeing is normal behaviour: the controls take a while to recentre. There are two yellow dots on your HUD which indicate the “virtual joystick” position. You can stop it by tapping quickly in the opposite direction (or using mouse control).

If something is messed up you can just re-install. Just back up your Save Files first. They should be in ProgramFiles\Oolite\oolite.app\oolite-saves.
As Ahruman says, it may just be getting used to the controls as they don't auto-center when you take you finger off the key. I played orginal BBC Elite with a standard Acorn (non-centering) joystick as a kid and it becomes automatic after a while!
Doh oh yeh - i meant yaw only came in with a later version!

Savegame position different under Vista
Careful! In Windows Vista they are atJust back up your Save Files first. They should be in ProgramFiles\Oolite\oolite.app\oolite-saves.
C:\Users\Name\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Oolite\oolite.app\oolite-saves
instead!
Just in case ...

As you noticed the change of behaviour after installing a lot of OXPs, I have another suggestion. To me it looks as if your framerate has dropped, which can be related to a lot of OXP activity.
If you press SHIFT-F while playing, your current framerate is displayed in the upper left corner of your screen. On a high end computer you should have up to 100 frames per second, 66 also isn't bad. On a slower configuration you should at least have 33 frames per second (fps), and even 25 is playable. If for some reason your framerate has dropped below 10, you may get the problems you are describing.
So your first debugging step should be comparing your framerate with and without all the OXPs installed. If there is a huge difference, then re-install the OXPs one by one and look which one causes the framerate to drop dramatically. Perhaps you will have to play without that one.
But anyway, it would be good and helpful to report which OXP causes the problem. It might be fixable.
