Building first ship-Need help!

Post by thefatllama »

Hi all
I just discovered this game a little while ago, and it's awesome! I've been trying to make my own ships recently, and finally finished my first...The problem is, it won't work. I tried opening the .dat file in "Dry Dock for Oolite" and it all worked out well...So it seems the problem lies with my shipdata and/or shipyarda .plists

I tried modifying a saved game and changing its ship to 'robberfly-player' (Which is my ship's name), but whenever I try to load the saved game it says it can't find 'robberfly-player'.
The shipdata and shipyard .plists all begin with

Code: Select all

<key>robberfly-player</key>
...What could I be doing wrong? Could I perhaps
e-mail this to someone so they could help me? I don't have a way to host it on the web...

Thanks!

Hi, thefatllama, and welcome to the boards and of course to this great game! :D

Nice that a newbie goes into designing right away!

If you want you can mail me your OXP to commander_mclane squiggle planet point ms (you will figure out the substitutes ).

I'll have a look into it.

But first of all you should make sure that your OXP resides in the right place (the AddOns-folder in your Oolite-folder). Second, if you do any changes to your code and restart the game, the program won't recognize the changes since it's using a cache. You can force Oolite to empty the cache by pressing SHIFT while the program starts. Then all changes you have made should be there in the game.

I tried emptying the cache, but it still doesn't work.
Err...
'planet'? What's that? A "@"?

Thanks for responding so quickly!

Planet is the string “planet”. Squiggle is a @. :-)

By the way, emptying the cache that way doesn’t work in 1.65; it has to be done manually there. I believe the cache for 1.65 is in Library/Application Support/Oolite/.

Hi, thefatllama,

just in case there's still some confusion, I have pm'd you my mail-address.

All you have to do is to click on the sentence "You have 1 new message" on top of this page (in between the "Profile" and the "Log out" buttons).

Thank you Ahruman and Commander McLane! I'll try emptying the cache first and if it doesn't work, I'll e-mail it to you :-).
