Laser-Zoom / scope
Hi commanders!
What do you think about a scope for wide range shoots?
Or is it to easy, killing the pirates without risk?
Best regards,
Matthias

Why not? We need more variation in weapons. Plasma n lasers, different colors ... etc ...
I also suggest a turret gun, which I could control with <shift> + <arrow> keys, so you must not change course to fire.
WE NEED MORE FIREPOWER OUT THERE!
And I want a wingman! Pirates should offer their skills for me, when I meet them in space. Or regulars in stations. Lets say 2000cr a week.

I agree! I wouldn't mind to exchange 20 or 25 tonnes of cargo space for each automated plasma turret and fit two of those on a PCC.julyy wrote:Why not? We need more variation in weapons. Plasma n lasers, different colors ... etc ...

Too much. I'd say the same prices as the renegade bounties for each type of ship. And I want a wingman! Pirates should offer their skills for me, when I meet them in space. Or regulars in stations. Lets say 2000cr a week.
You know those who, having been mugged and stabbed, fired, dog run over, house burned down, wife eloped with best friend, daughters becoming prostitutes and their countries invaded - still say that "all is well"?
I'm obviously not one of them.

Yeah, this would bring the "useless" trading ships again into my buisness.I agree! I wouldn't mind to exchange 20 or 25 tonnes of cargo space for each automated plasma turret and fit two of those on a PCC.
And trading convoys would be better in defence then ... more attractiv to beat them out ... ahhh yeah ....

Haven't quite got my head round the java script yet, but I think an AI to make a ship escort the player might be doable on the next 1.70 version of Oolite. The script to charge the player weekly for the service, make the ship appear on the players wing and have suitable "job applicants" contact the player when docked could already be done.
OXPS : The Assassins Guild, Asteroid Storm, The Bank of the Black Monks, Random Hits, The Galactic Almanac, Renegade Pirates can be downloaded from the Elite Wiki here.

If you want to go down that route the question has to be what is the cost? Any increase in firepower / remote kill ability needs to be balanced by a cost - either increased energy drain or vulnerability.
How about you can only use the increased accuracy by disabling your shields. Or maybe the energy drain of using a turret disables your navigation controls for several seconds.
You could explore the possibility - the code shouldn't be too hard to change, but at the cost you would need to exact, it's probably not worthwhile.
Currently I am debating with myself as to whether it would be a good idea to suggest a BFG gun that wipes out all controls for several seconds. Using the oolite principal that the AIs get to play with all the toys currently leads me to say no. It would be a bit of an instant death game killer. Perhaps you good make the weapon have to be targetted so that any one who gets the weapon aimed at them would be warned so they would be able to take evasive manoeuvres and still stand a chance.
That said, there is the question why bother. It would not necessarily add to gameplay.
