I was flying towards Reorte with a cargo bay of food and textiles when a Python asked for help cos it was being attcked by a pirate.
I spent the best part of 10 mins defending the Python and eventually killed the pirate and the Python captain said thanks.
Some cargo was left behind by the pirate so I scooped some up.
And what happend? A damm trumble floated across my screen lol.
All that effort to defend someone I didn't know out of the goodness of my heart, and I get lumberd with some damm green hairy critter.
It even ate most of my food cargo before I managed to get to Reorte.
So what happens now?
Does a trumble die of old age eventually?
Is there any way to get rid of one?
Well that's just great........

Hey good idea!
When I get around to reviving the getHesperus_oxp, I'll surely add such an encounter as an alternative mission trigger.
If the trumble quest is inactive AND the GetHesperusQuest is inactive:
"Hey Commander, thanks for butting in like that!"
"You stole my kill, I just had him where I wanted 'im."
"Oh well, I'm a socialbel cat. So thanks for trying to help."
"let's see...*rumble-crash* yeah, take this container as a gift to a [score] commander such as you. Zee Yarr!"
...a container is ejected from the 'Dubious Profit' and the vessel moves off some distance, before hyperspacing.
When you scoop the container, it contains furs. . . . and one cute little trumble!

Ah yes, happens to many Commanders. Have a look at the FAQ page on the Wiki here http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Oolite_FAQ
OXPS : The Assassins Guild, Asteroid Storm, The Bank of the Black Monks, Random Hits, The Galactic Almanac, Renegade Pirates can be downloaded from the Elite Wiki here.

But my guess is that you came already to the scene with the trumble. Cause it usually takes quite a while before it becomes visible and starts eating. Now you should get rid of it before it has multiplied too much. Because things will get worse...
And yes, the FAQ-page is a good hint. If you don't get the idea there, then you could try the Oolite missions page of the wiki, and there the very, very bottom.
