I've completed all the standard missions, so now I took a look at the OXPs.
Unfortunately very few of them take place in Galaxy 5.

You'll have to go round to G8 and back to G1. However, you could spend a while in G7 playing Assassins (only two jumps away). Then head back to G1.

That's a good reason to install the OXPs early and play them along with finishing the built-in missions.
The wiki missions page gives good information on which missions are located in which galaxy, so you don't need to install them all at once.
Besides, some of the OXP-missions in Galaxy 1 are fairly easy and meant for the unexperienced Jameson. I guess if you already have finished all the built-in missions they could be a bit boring.
