Greetings of a newbie
Good day everybody. I am a newbie on this bulletins. Started to play with Elite in the 80's on my Oric Atmos then Amstrad and finally Atari 520ST. I was so happy to find a follow up. This being say, my present laptop is lagging a bit with only 512 Mb of memory and something like 60 oxp installed.
I need to transfer that on the desktop.
One question : how do you get multiple planets and can you get other planets than these blurry things on the 1.68 version ?
Also, is it possible to have some kind of background noise, not an annoying music but kind of engines and bleep-bleeps of instrumentation ?
I am just competent, so not yet time to discuss fancy things.
Congrats once more to the programmers and I know what I am saying, I sold 3 video games in 83, 84 and 86.

There is no theory of evolution. Just a list of creatures Chuck Norris has allowed to live.

Welcome to the boards.
You can use addMoon and addPlanet to add planets to a system and set the textures they use. Eg:-
to define it in planetinfo, then:-
To add these planets to a particular system.
The new planets in 1.68 look really cool, BUT you have to turn them on!
Press pause and then T. Next time you make a jump, the planet should be nice and clear!
Think A's done it this way in case your system can't cope with the procedual planets. By default there the old blocky ones. My faily old PC seems to cope, and they are pretty stunning with nice coastlines, cloud cover and stuff.

Code: Select all
"gas_giantA" = {
position = "-6000000 7000000 25650000";
radius = 240000;
orientation = "0.0 1.0 0.0 1.0";
texture = "hitsplanet11.PNG";
seed = "1 2 3 4 5 6";
"polar_color_factor" = 2.5;
"rotational_velocity" = 0.04;
};
Code: Select all
"6 13" = {
"ambient_level" = "3.0";
"sky_blur_alpha" = "0.85";
"sky_blur_cluster_chance" = "0.55";
"sky_blur_scale" = "25";
"script_actions" = (
debugOn, "addMoon: rebel_moon",
"addMoon: gas_giant",
"addMoon: gas_giantA",
"addMoon: gas_giantB",
debugOff
);
};

OXPS : The Assassins Guild, Asteroid Storm, The Bank of the Black Monks, Random Hits, The Galactic Almanac, Renegade Pirates can be downloaded from the Elite Wiki here.
Thanks a lot all.
1. I might get interesting textures, I am creating virtual landscape and virtual world with 3D software (Terragen for example), so I might be able to generate some nice planets.
2. I guess it was on Atmos I played Elite first or maybe on the Spectrum but not sure at all. Actually, the soft I wrote were on ZX81 (16 Kb memory) and on Amstrad CPC 464. I think you can still find Ethnos, the one on Amstrad.

You know those who, having been mugged and stabbed, fired, dog run over, house burned down, wife eloped with best friend, daughters becoming prostitutes and their countries invaded - still say that "all is well"?
I'm obviously not one of them.

Guys,
I worked now in the oil and gas exploration business and I am posted in a remote place in Africa. Do not expect me to develop ANYTHING ! I leave this to young, bright and scandinavian genius. Good luck for them.

Being in a remote place in Africa doesn't need to be a hindrance for developping something, as I can tell from experience. Just welcome to the club!Makandal wrote:Guys,

@ Frame: So, are you bright or scandinavian?

Remember that some people's computers are so old that they manufacture instead of processing and have but an Alzheimerian vague recollection to use as memory.
As it is, even though my machine isn't too old, I already have lag problems when I try to use too many OXPs...
