full ships specs in shipyard
I am currently looking to upgrade my cobra MKIII into something more spacious but still polyvalent. Everytime I browse the shipyard the only info i have about ships is the price, tonnage, speed and included options.
I think this is not enough, would be better to more complete listing, how much missile pylons, weapons slots, pitch, armor, main compatible options, etc.... even maybe a short sentence to describe globally the ship.

Can't get this Info in game ATM. However the Wiki Ship's page will give you this sort of Info if you click on the picture of the relevent ship. All the Classic ships have full entries. The OXP ships were recently updated so there are only full entries for about half of them, but its still a good source of info.
Ships page is here: http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Oolite_Ships
If your looking for a better version of the Cobra, the Super Cobra and Cobra Courier are both very good. You might need to spend some time in a battered old python first though to build up the cash hauling your 115 tones a trade run.

I agree!
Somewhere there must be the information in a "make-into-a-page"able form. Much of the fun of buying something (even virtually) is comparing specs, and not just speed and cargo capacity.
Would a full set of specs spoil the game, or is it just that no one's put together a list?
I'm currently in a iron-arsed super cobra (very nice as an upgrade to the cobra 3) and it's hard to tell whether there are other ships to upgrade to that would meet my needs better (like the Tiger for instance - has it got better shields, weapons...?). It feels like the military lasers on the Super Cobra fire faster than on the cobra?
And it would be horribly dissapointing to buy a ship and find you couldn't install the bits you wanted (like galactic drive, for instance).

You can get at least some information on the possible upgrades of a ship by comparing the variants offered in the shipyard. But of course that doesn't work if there a no variants offered.
Personally I wanted to buy a Tiger for a very loooooong time, but they are so friggin' rare that I actually was offered one the first time only after I had long given up that plan. (The easy way would've been to reduce its TL in shipyard.plist.)
Finally I ended up with a Imperial Courier, and I can wholeheartedly recommend it to you. A very fine multi-purpose ship, like the SuperCobra, just better in (almost) all specs.

I guess its just a question of room on the Screen. I'd like to see maybe the Energy Banks, Missiles and Pitch / Roll appear along with Cargo and Speed, but as there are 15 odd items of equipment an equipment available list might just be too much to fit on.
I flew an Imperial Courier for a long time before buying a Tiger (just for a change). The Super Cobra, Imperial Courier and Tiger are probabley the strongest all-round player ships in the game and there's not much to choose between them. Here's the Tiger's stats:-
Name : Tiger Mk I
Shipyard : CyberTiger Inc.
Energy Recharge Rate : 4.5
Energy Banks : 7
Max Cargo : 50 (Expandable to 65)
Pitch : 1.0
Roll : 2.0
Missile Pylons : 6
Max Speed : 0.5 LM
All Equipment can be fitted. Expensive at 730,000 Credits and only available at high tech systems.

Is that info on the Wiki?
On that subject, what is the number I divide the energy rating in shipdata so that I can determine the number of Energy Banks? As far as I can tell, it's about 65.

I've just put that info on the wiki but it needs work. The Imperial Courier also needs some data to be put up along. Both pages need a back story.

Guess I'll update the Stub article!
To find the energy banks take the Energy Value in shipdata and divide by 64. However Oolite drops any fractions, so 6.999 would be drawn by Oolite as 6 energy banks. Eg with the Adder:-
<key>max_energy</key>
<real>85</real>
85 divide by 64 = 1.3 (So it has 1 Energy Bank).
