Keyboard or Joystick?
Currently I play Oolite solely using the keyboard, but I'm debating whether or not to buy a joystick.
I'd be interested to know how many of you use each.

It’s quite simple: edit the first post in the thread and add an option. Well, it’s simple for me… I’m assuming normal users can do it, too. Anyway, I’ve done it. :-)

Cheers Ahuman, I could edit the post but there was no way to add another option.Ahruman wrote:It’s quite simple: edit the first post in the thread and add an option. Well, it’s simple for me… I’m assuming normal users can do it, too. Anyway, I’ve done it.
Interesting to see the majority favouring keyboard only.

That doesn’t really compare, though. Those joysticks were binary; modern ones are analogue. Still, I feel the mouse provides better accuracy… I prefer it for flight sims, too.Commander McLane wrote:And even on the C64 and later on the ST I preferred the keyboard-only controlling over the joystick. It always felt like giving me a better control.

Mouse? I never saw any option for using a mouse (in the pc version).
How do i select the mouse for use?
I'd use a joystick but you lose out on control. The keyboard seems to move you faster in dives and climbs than a gamepad/joystick does. Like a sort of accelerated move. Where as with the stick, it just continues to move at the same pace regardless without accelerating it.

keyboard!
I should also note that this game as well as Starsiege:Tribes are the main reason for me not playing around with the Dvorak keyboard setup...haha

Is there anything more enjoyable than watching a hOOpy casino collide with an open wormhole and get transported to a poor lawless system

I love to play it with the joystick, gives me much preciser control.
One thing I find odd, though. With keyboard when you roll or pitch it goes all out max. With joystick it never goed further than halfways any direction with pitch and roll.... Do any of you have the same experience?
I'm playing 1.69.1 test-version with a (bought for this game) Saitek Cyborg Evo. (great joystick!!)
[edit]
Never mind the halfway pitch/roll-thing. Welcome to the precision-toggle... (never knew I pressed the damn buton... but nice, makes docking more easy)

Hi, hello, welcome!
Please, do come in to the friendliest board this side of Riedquat - and never mind the drunken pirate on the floor. Also, avoid eye contact with the spam assassins or they might think you're trying to peddle something...

You know those who, having been mugged and stabbed, fired, dog run over, house burned down, wife eloped with best friend, daughters becoming prostitutes and their countries invaded - still say that "all is well"?
I'm obviously not one of them.
