Stolen freighter

Post by *cat »

What's a "stolen freighter" (All Stars OXP?)? I've been assuming it's just that - stolen... but in the midst of a big fight with pirates, the "stolen freighter" and its escorts seemed quite law-abiding, clean and respectable and not joining in the attack.
I had my hands full and figured I could do without another 4 attackers.
So should I be blowing up Stolen Freighters, or is Stolen just an "alien name", and I should feel pangs of remorse for blowing up a number of them in the past - kill the thief and the owners claim on the insurance, I figure...
Of course, if they were "Stollen freighters" carrying hundreds of tons of German cake... go go military lasers and cake scoops!!

Hmm... are fuel scoops the only piece of equipment mostly used for something other than their name? Mining lasers for mining, ore processors (great idea!) for processing ore, fuel scoops for scooping... cargo (or cake!)

Fuel scoops are used for scooping everything. Some people use them mainly for sunskimming and filling their fueltanks for free, some people use them to fill their ship's freightroom, so they don't need to care about fuelprices.

As far as they lasers are concerned: You can do mining with any laser; you don't need a mining laser for that. A military laser is a fine tool for mining.

That's hilarious, Griff!
I'd love to steal a stollen and offer guests "stolen cake", but it's against my morals!

It's on Oosat 2.

On a more serious note, and without any cake jokes, I've had a look at the shipdata info and I can't explain why it's called a 'Stolen Freighter', it just is, but it can appear as a hunter, pirate or scavenger so blow them up if your conscience can take it!

Watch out, freighter-thieves!
It's embarassing to admit, but the more impressive the ship model, the more tempting it is to blow up! I hate it when pirates are in boring kraits/cobra1s etc. At least the space stations are fairly simple - a good survival strategy (on top of the huge shields, vipers etc).

On that subject, I docked once with a SLAPU with coloured globs of plasma flying everywhere: do you think I couldn've blown it up? I docked and bought some fuel instead - I wish I'd tried....

I docked with a SLAPU once as well, but I was much younger and less discerning then!

Be warned, young Commander! The SLAPU stations are protected by Military Rays (and if Dr. Nil took my suggestion, Giant Rays too)!

If the SLAPU is generated too near the sun it starts taking heat damage, which will eventually overwhealm its shields. In theroy every station in Oolite can be destroyed, but most stations are set to Energy 50,000 Recharge 100. So usually however much you tried, even with a Military Laser and a full bay of hard-heads you could never destroy a station as the damage is recharged before you get its energy down.

It is however possible to destroy a station if you are very cunning. wink: Hint:- It involves cleaver use of a q-mine!

Some small OXP stations and carriers (eg the HoOpy) can be destroyed by laser fire.
OXPS : The Assassins Guild, Asteroid Storm, The Bank of the Black Monks, Random Hits, The Galactic Almanac, Renegade Pirates can be downloaded from the Elite Wiki here.

Not to forget: Rock hermits can be destroyed quite easily with laser fire.

Not very spectacular, though.

I once had a Casino explode while I was docked at it. As I remember it my ship was forcibly thrown out and took a lot of damage.

It will probably be fixed at some point. I suppose it's just a matter of using solar radii as the unit when placing the stations. I'd like to fix it so that the commie sun stations are generated by the planet plist instead of the script since I suppose that this would be the correct way to do this. I just worked through the night too many times between september and New Year's Eve when originally creating my OXPs (especially Commies, Oo-haul and Your Ad Here), and have had an aversion against doing anything but very minor changes ever since.

Unfortunately the GRs are too large for the SLAPU docking bays, but I don't want to have the Comoonin put a price on my head for revealing this.

I had one warp whilst I was inside it...I exited and then I couldn't do anything but stare at the wormhole sitting infront of me...latter on I saw a casino forced to warp by a Ixion No-Ship warping right ahead of it...so of course I followed it through the wormhole and found that it was warped into a Poor Agricultural low TL Anarchy...haha...irony of ironies...it's like the exact opposite of where they usually appear...

as for stuff blowing up...I've seen a Torus station go kaboom...well...I didn't actually see it...I was facing the other direction...it went kaboom metal fragments covered the radar my computer grudgingly accounted for everything slowly...and then I got the bright idea that since the station was destroyed I might as well destroy the Casino as well...yea...good thing I'd already refueled...haha...I later realized that if I had run too low on fuel that I could have docked at the casino had I not destroyed it...haha
Is there anything more enjoyable than watching a hOOpy casino collide with an open wormhole and get transported to a poor lawless system

Having it in a full on whichspace battle with the Thargs... Plus several other law abiding dudes who got pulverised. Cake scoops came in real handy on that one!
