Can we erase all user accounts older than 1 year, with 0 posts?

(there are no members-only sections on the board, so no need to have 'lurker' members.)

Or is it a status thing to have many members, even though they do not contribute anything?

Somebody could always send them a PM asking them to respond or post on the boards within 14 days of receipt of the PM or their account would be deleted...

Why?
I would interpret such reminder as aggressive.
maybe i'm too sensitive in that respect (taking offense to mail).

The account users don't lose anything save for the honour of being a member since 1984.
Quite possibly most of them have forgotten they ever created the account anyhow

To reverse the question: is there any problem with having old accounts that haven’t done anything? It’s not like they’re lying around on the floor collecting dust. (If they have spammy URLs in their profiles, that’s another matter.)

It's just that I was looking in the memberslist and found that 3/4th of the accounts were just placeholders.

...No reason to delete them per se.
It just jarred my sense of neatness.
Some days my pedantry is expressed more strongly than other days.
