My favourite game of all time is Frontier on the Amiga, I clocked some serious hours playing that game. Yesterday, I heard about OOlite and have been playng it ever since... wow... good job.
Because of my love affair with Frontier I've tried every spacetrader/shooter game going and they all miss the true scale and opportunities of Frontier/Elite (And it used to fit on a single floppy disk of half the capacity of todays floppies). OOlite has it in droves, it is fantastic in every way. I'm a little disappointed that it's only one world per system (I'd love some gas giants and moons) but it isn't really a great loss. The witchdrives are an excellent replacement for the time-skip feature. The combat is fantastic.
As far as I can make out the only game element missing, from my point of view, is the ability to land on a remote planet and mine it (or rob other peoples mines). But even that is no great loss as it was only incidental to the original anyway. You have done a great job in creating this homage and It isn't a stretch to say that you have improved on many of the problems with Braben's Frontier, which was rushed.
As a coder I've always had a great respect for Ian Bell and David Braven and I extend that respect to those who have created this. Thank you.
Thank You

Welcome to Oolite and to the boards, docwild!
As you are a coder, perhaps you would also be willing to let the community profit from your skills? Oolite is still a work in progress--on the board you will find a couple of threads reflecting that--and help in developing it further is very much appreciated. Be it by contributing you own OXPs or even by working on the code.
So, feel free not only to consult the wiki extensively, but also to read through the boards. You will quite quickly get a feeling about what is going on here.
And of course and first of all I wish you many joyful hours of gameplay.

Kind words. The only reason I found oolite was because I was brushing up on my C and SDL... I really should get back to that.
The way the game is extended (oxps) is very well thought out and I certainly am interested in learning more about this.
watch this space
I like the sound of that. I watch on...
