Stealth Ship

hi, im new.. im 33, and played Elite on the Commodore 64 alot... back in the 80´s

Im playing oolite ATM. in a python.. making milk runs, as someone put it..

But...

i was wondering, while i accomplished two missions, the constrictor mission and the thargoid Document mission.

I have read that these where the only two missions, which brings me to the subject...

During my trading runs i came across a stealth ship, that didnt make a blip on the scanner...

however, at that time i had started over.. and had not made the constrictor mission yet...

i presumed it was part of another mission and i accidently came across it...

however, i discovered it by seeing a 4 pixel large 2x2 dot on the screen, which on the commodore 64, meant that this was a ship at extreme range..

at the time i thought it was a pirate or an astoride... on the commodore you could place it exactly right in your crosshair, and fire, and get a hit... at extreme range..

i did that, and it attacked me, that was when the fight engaged...
now not being able to see it on the scanner, it made a prolonged battle...

i think i killed it when it played a game of chicken with me, and i launched my missiles just when it chickend out, going beneath, not giving it time to use ECM.. i heard a boom, and no ECM sound. and couldnt locate it again visually...

So im wondering, has anyone else come across this ship.. ? and was it part of a mission ?.

I can still remember how it looked somewhat..

distinctively it had two pylons at each side on which there was a sphere from which again two antennas pointed out...

Hi Frame, welcome to the boards!
This is interesting, as I've never come across anything like this. Have you installed any Oolite Expansion Packs (OXP's) or are you running Oolite on it's own?
There isn't any missions other than these in G1, and if you haven't installed any OXP's there shouldn't be any ships other than the native ships as seen in Elite. Is there a possibility that you could make a more detailed image of the ship, as there are experts on this board that are more able than I to help.

Well the stealth ship i spotted in Classic Elite, on the commodore 64, back in the 80´s.

Im running oolite with a ore processor OXP and some modeled up Cobra OXP which author and name i cant recall right now :S..

I will make a basic model in 3d max of the stealth ship, from what i can remember.

Will upload an image or more here when its done..

Hm, I don't recall any encounter with a stealth ship in C64-Elite. Perhaps I just wasn't lucky?

There is a built-in mission in Oolite where you have to hunt down a cloaked ship. But it only takes place in one of the higher galaxies. Captain Hesperus already has posted the link to the page of the Elite Wiki where you will find all the information you need on missions, the built-in ones and the ones you can add by installing OXPs. (The really great feature of Oolite is the possibility to extend it with expansion packs.)

So continue to enjoy Oolite. Let us perhaps know when you have come across the cloaked ship.

looks like a cross between an adder and the imperial courier...
I think I recall Selezen talking about his predecessor of the courier having an adapted adder hull...

So you probably have his OXP installed.

Doesn't explain the cloaking device though.

That probably makes more sense, I had a quick peek into the Imp Courier OXP and there seems to be only the one model but there is a Renegade Adder.

im sorry, but this ship i located in the

commodore 64 version.. of Classic elite...

not on PC or in oolite or any OXP,

in regard to the main hull, that part i cant recall for 100%
since the ship was doing nothing but evading me

but the pylons and sphere and antenna im sure off

It wasn't me. I only ever used the Courier Hull in the Courier. Giles made an Imperial Cobra though.

Nice guesses of all you guys, but please: Frame isn't talking about Oolite at all! He's recalling something he has seen on his C64 some 20-odd years ago.

Perhaps I recall a ship like this as well. But I'm not sure whether reading this thread probalbly has induced a "false memory".

Perhaps it was an easter egg in one (ore more?) Elite-versions.

So the question should be: Does anybody recall a similar encounter from any previous Elite-version? We are not talking about Oolite here!
