Reporting spam

The executable is by no means harmless. Like many adult websites that try to get you to install "codecs" and the like to browse their site often install dialers and advertising software, at the very least. Worst-case scenario? They install RATsand turn your computer into zombies.

Did anyone claim the executables are harmless? I merely said they weren’t odd. I can confirm that at least one recurring spammer is attempting to distribute a RAT.

I now have FTP access to the server. I have updated to the latest version of phpBB and will be looking into MODs.

I tend to operate on the assumption that people are compentent, but: Do not follow spammers’ links. These people are not trying to give you free porn out of the goodness of their hearts.

So… yesterday, I installed the disable-spambots MOD. Since then, I haven’t seen any spam, just empty accounts (touch wood).

Only problem is that the Edit Profile link on the profile page, which is an important step in the account-deletion process, is now gone. I have to dig through the source of the page to find the right link. (I think this actually happened in the upgrade to 2.0.22.) Hmm…

Looks like that was a the effect of a MOD that was overwritten by the upgrade.
