I just tried to make my first serious run for months. Don't even remember what I was doing but the mission screen tells me I'm looking for a Leviathan and some pirates at Enanaar. I vaguely recall getting some of those ships but getting stuck after patrolling more or less all systems in the vincinity - following advise from scared frogs or something..

Left a station and followed a jumping Cobra Courier.

Thargoid Carrier at the witchpoint. Flipping to get the carrier with my fore/aft mil lasers. Just as it is about to blow a Python comes by and makes the kill lots of debris, but it quickly clears and i get to kill an ordinary Tharg and it's tharglets. Not too bad then. Heads toward the planet. Suddenly my shields are in red. A Hydra attacks. It's a tough fight. Lots of injecting and sudden stops and so on. One by one the Hydra is relieved of it's many lasers. Now it gets really hard to hit it. I discover that I don't have any missiles. I get a lot of shots in, but the pilot is good at evasive movements. I get desperate and try to ram him, but it's not enough to kill the unarmed Hydra, more shots. In the distance a Python (probably the guy from before) calls for help, I half notice a cop on the radar probably off to rescue the Python, whatever - still busy with the Hydra. Suddenly a red blip speeds across the radar from behind me. My aft shields go down in seconds and the systems start failing - fuel injectors first, then energy bomb (didn't realize that I had one), I try to evade, but before I even get to turn around and see who's attacking me, I'm dead

Didn't even have Renegades installed (my set-up seems to dislike their big guns).

Oolite is great fun. Did get a headache from tensing up while trying to track that Hydra.

Hi Doc! Welcome back to playing!

Seems you're close to the end of Military right now (hence the Leviathan and the Hydra, which is a Military ship, not a Renegade one). Perhaps that explains something.

Yeah, I knew the Hydra was mil. I just thought that anything killing me as fast as it happened with that other ship had to be a armed as a Renegade or another stolen mil ship. I then expected that another stolen military ship would have been flying together with the one I was fighting. But it must have been at least a Rattle Cutter. Not even a twin mil laser armed pirate Wolf Mk II would have taken me out this fast.

WB to the space lanes Doc, out of interest what were you flying? Something with a bit more Oomph than a worm I hope.

I was flying a Purple Haze (the choice of shady doctors) equipped with Naval Energy Unit, Military Shields and the whole shebang. I am looking at what's being offered at the shipyards though as the PH is rather expensive in repairs and only takes 10 TC (non-expandable). Unfortunately I'll loose at least 200k changing ships since that's how much the price has been lowered since I bought one when it was first introduced.

I might go for the Paladin next time.
