Improving the Equipment-Screen

Post by Commander McLane »

Just an idea...

Wouldn't it be nice to have small pictures of all buyable equipment items displayed on the ships outfit-screen, like the ships themselves are displayed on the shipyard-screen? (IIRC in AtariST-ELITE there were thumbnails of all buyable items as well as of all cargo items in the market-screen and even of all races on the planetinfo-screen.) I think it could be done with a .png as background for each selected item (or perhaps even with rotating models like the ships??). As I just read the wiki-article about the fuel scoops I know there is a picture of them there. Perhaps there are also already pictures available of other equipment items. And if not, the graphic's guys could get something to do.

What I don't know, though, is if it could be doable in an OXP or would need some hard coding.

Rotating pictures of equipment!

Excellent, first class, tophole, that would be really cool.

IIRC according to the manual the extra energy unit has a copper coloured top, and lasts longer!

Deep Joy!

@ Brianetta:It seems your image-link is broken. At least in my browser I only see a questionmark. But I'd love to see how they did it in ArcElite.

Yeah, me too, only a question mark.

Edit.

I'm using Safari, in case that makes a difference, see Wolfwood's post.

Best way to do it:

1- model items.
2- use code similar to that used in shipyard or planet screen to display item.

Enhancing the planetinfo screen is another party altogether I'd rather not revisit anytime soon.

It seems to have referer checking. Just copy the image location and paste it into a new window, and it'll start to work.

I've fixed it so your forums can now see this image.
