Extra Equipment

Post by Commander McLane »

When I had a look into the equipment.plist within Oolite I discovered some very nice items that to my knowledge are nowhere used. They all have "a TL too high to be available at all" and appear in the last part of the plist. Is anybody aware of them being used by certain NPC-ships perhaps in the game itself? Or has somebody already included them in an OXP? Or are they Easter Eggs? Or just implemented because Giles had plans for a future release?

I imagine I could get some ideas of how to use them in an OXP, if that hasn't been done yet. 8)

If you don't know what I'm talking about, don't bother. I don't want to give any spoilers.

Ooooohh. :D
I'm guessing that Giles had a number of items that he was going to introduce at some stage, once he'd got them working properly, eg plasma cannons.

There were a couple of things added back when I was thinking about an OXP. They have code support so should work, but nothing uses them at this point.

Thanks, dajt!

So I guess nothing will hinder me (or anybody else, of course!!!) from developing some nice ideas! :twisted:

plasma cannons do work fine, just not available by default.

Not very powerful but useful for shooting Hardened missiles!

Most B.inc ships come with rear cannons by default
<Another shameless plug!>

Make sure the relevent bit of:
Oolite\oolite.app\Contents\Resources\Config\equipment.plist
reads as below:

.
.
<!-- next item was a test item -->
<array> <integer>2</integer>
<integer>2000</integer>
<string>Twin Plasma Cannon</string>
<string>EQ_WEAPON_TWIN_PLASMA_CANNON</string>
<string>Basic cannon delivering charged plasma bursts at sublight speed.</string>
<dict>
<key>available_to_all</key>
<true/>
</dict>
</array>
.
.

& you'll have TPC's for sale 8)

The question suggests you’re using a Mac, in which case: control-click (or right-click) the Oolite application in the Finder, and select “Show Package Contents”.

I'm not convinced the plasma cannon deals any damage at all...
I'd need to check vs an asteroid.
Hermits certainly regenerate shields too fast for any damage to occur before HOC (or heatsink overflow cutoff).
And I never managed to damage smaller (and faster) targets. :oops:

It did not work for me but looking at the other values etc could i change the value of a galactic hyperdrive from 5000cr to say 50cr just by adjusting the value ?
of course i would not do that

Yes you could, but that would be fraud.
It will lead to your status on the forums to turn to fugitive for all time.
;)

The things the plasmacannon does (IMO) is:
make pretty lights (can be used as tracking-fire in NPCs)
turns targets hostile.
heats up the lasercoolers.

you may need to delete the cache, before you can see changes.

I forget where you can find it. :(

As I said: I don't recall.

But it is hell when working out subentities and textures: the old versions keep turning up if you don't clear the cache.
