Hello wizzy, welcome on board. Good to hear you are enjoying yourself.

Yes, Thargoid carriers do make a mess, so much so that I always run away when I encounter them, not just because I'm scared of them but mainly due to the drop in the framerate.. no, really!

What I do when not reading the Oolite bulletin board!

Welcome to wizzy.

The game actually has a build-in upper limit for the amount of debris an object can produce when blown up. I'd like that limit to be set lower - have the same problem with having to not fight those nasty carriers because of their debris. They are also just a little too easy to destroy with two mil lasers (wouldn't mind them to launch Thargoid Warships at the same speed that the Warships launch Robot Fighters  that is if the debris issue was fixed).

Thanks guys :)

Will check out the upper frame limit thingmajig. Thought i'd be ok running a core 2 duo with 256meg card! After a few seconds it seems to settle down a bit and the FR returns to normal. Scope is next to useless though as all you can see is white lines. COOL!

Some dude i wasted in G7 has set his mega mamba weilding sisters on me.... a piddy da foolz .

Assassins is so far proving to be extremely entertaining

Enough of your sexual exploits doc - lets keep it about the game...

I've fitted a mil laser on the rear (of my ship <tsk>) but to be honest I can't use it (not on little ships anyway) - I'm not a brill shot facing forwards - I'm near useless firing/facing backwards and my gamepad isn't very manageable upside (which was my C64 trick with my old Atari 2600 joystick)

@DH becoming expert with your rear laser just takes a bit of practice and once you have mastered it it is a very useful way of overcoming the laser overheating, in fact sometimes, particularly in assassins, it's the only way to make progress! so persevere with it, it's really worthwhile. You will also find that opponents are much easier to kill with the rear laser because they don't try to avoid the laser fire anywhere like they do when you are up their backsides. It saves time too, you can set yourself on a run to the planet and pick him off when he comes up behind you.

Apart from all that, it's what an iron ass elite commander does in his sleep!

And if you have all your four views fitted with a mil laser (as I have), blowing up Thargoid Carriers becomes fairly easy, because it takes a little under four full blasts to boom them. And as they are moving quite slowly, it's easy to hit them first starboard, then flip to port (or the other way round, doesn't matter), then front, then rear. KaBOOOOM!

Or, of course, as I mentioned in another thread, if you got to kill two of them (and perhaps some smaller ships (as you will have to do with an advanvced kill count)), then THIS is the opportunity for your Q-bomb.

Tell me about it!

Used to use the flipperty flopperty lasers on orig Elite but they seemed to be cooled from the same cooler as the front. Oolites is much nicer.

Not a particularly great shot facing behind mind..... I couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo but it's good fun!
