New version, this one contains the still unofficial render to framebuffer executable, complete with bloom and post-fx. As usual, download link in first post.

New monolith generated from revision 08c0079, the revision that introduced the render to framebuffer stuff. Link at first post, as always.

2.5 years later, here is one more of those monolithic releases of the game for Windows. This is the current latest trunk plus selected OXPs, all in one 295MB executable for high portability.
Download it from here.
First post of this thread updated to reflect the new release.

Re: An alternative binary distribution
New monolith has landed. Check the first post for download details.
In this build, and for testing and evaluatiobn purposes, a new diffuse light model has been enabled. It is the Burley BRDF, presented by Brent Burley in his 2012 white paper "Physically Based Shading at Disney", now running exclusively in this build in place of the Oren-Nayar we normally have (actual nightly builds are still using Oren-Nayar although the Burley code is already present and dormant in the shaders). You can playtest it if you want and see how it looks like for you. I should note here that the Burley BRDF is highly regarded in the computer graphics industry, it happens to be offered as an option in engines like Unity etc. and is the default diffuse model in the Godot engine.

Re: An alternative binary distribution
Just one more quick update of the monolith, now with revision cf7e686 which contains the HDR detection bug for multi-monitor setups fix. Also, the Burley diffuse BRDF has been reverted back to Oren-Nayar in this build. After doing some testing of my own, I decided that I much prefer the Oren-Nayar model. However, Burley always remains optional and available if you liked it more. First post updated with the relevant details for downloads etc.

Re: An alternative binary distribution
Still getting the dialog telling there's no primary HDR monitor in my VM (although it starts in HDR mode, and I can confirm it's running in an HDR window). Somehow, it doesn't enable the HDR logo of the monitor to pop-up (which happens for other HDR _and_ non-HDR games).
Wondering if somehow HDR detection is mixed with some 4k-ish resolution detection, too, as my monitor is only 1080p (and HDR).
EDIT: I also have another monitor enabled in the VM, which is not HDR. Both are refreshed at 144 Hz, and running the desktop at 1080p. There are also two more monitors detected by the VM but not enabled, and besides the RTX 2070 SUPER, there is also the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter enabled.

Re: An alternative binary distribution
Were you getting the dialog also with previous builds of 1.91?
Also, can you please post latest.log and dxdiag text file from the VM?

Re: An alternative binary distribution
I will look at any data you send in a while once I get home. In the meantime, could you please try disabling the MS Basic Display Adapter in the vm? You had this issue in the past and you had reported that disabling the adapter fixed it.

Re: An alternative binary distribution
I disabled it, but no luck, still getting the dialog. I might need to uninstall it, will have to review my previous message about this.another_commander wrote: ↑Sat Jul 26, 2025 7:16 pmI will look at any data you send in a while once I get home.
