I'm not complaining, just curious... What made you think this thread was the place to post it?
Because you are the one person currently experimenting with access to equipment/ship upgrades. You seemed the most obvious person to take an interest in the idea. I'd not thought it could be done in an OXP though!

And, for make benefit of those who came in late, what exactly are "yaw boosters" supposed to do?

Apologies - started replying and then got severely distracted...

I unearthed (unlaved?) an old post suggesting that Yaw Boosters should be an optional piece of equipment.

Just catching up, or trying to...

My fave version of classic Elite was the Arc one, which featured yaw boosters. I think they were actually a purchasable upgrade, rather than a mission reward. I'd love to see them included in Oolite, for completeness sake if nothing else.

To be honest though I rarely used them, since I was an old-school Electron/BBC Elite player so they didn't fit into my mental flight model. Still, having seen people play ArcElite who hadn't learnt Elite on the BBC they generally made good use of the yaw boosters. Their addition would I'm sure be most welcome.
Phkb then came in and said that he thought he could OXP it, removing Yaw at game start and then making it available for a price later.

But it also fixes the issue of NPCs not using yaw unless they have side lasers - and no vanilla game NPCs having side lasers - and thus giving an unfair advantage to players. Perhaps it should be teamed up with the [EliteWiki] Skilled NPCs OXP which can give the vanilla game ships side lasers?

I think side lasers and docking are the only instances we're I actually use yaw. Side lasers are so fiddly to use that I no longer bother.

Side lasers worked well in the Commodore 64 version. They've always been as good as useless in Oolite. Put mining lasers there, you know it makes sense.

Thats exactly what I did in my elite days.

B&B programmed the C64 version if I recall but not the spectrum version which was the one I had.
