Travelogue: The Hunt For Edzaar
Before anything else: All I know about Edzaar is (1) that it exists, and (2) it's not in Chart 1. That's on purpose. Please don't spoil it.
Our first log entry sees us docked at Laraisso main station at 2084169:18:53. Shortly before writing this entry, we signed up to transport one Esittiab Brans to Inerra. Resistance has been negligible so far, but we are expecting that to increase in the near future. We loaded the holds of our Cobra Mk. III with Computers and Machinery, picked up some below-market Platinum, and are ready to head out.
Due to poor luck on exiting the station, our next stop is obstructed by the planet. But that's a normal thing to happen and easily solved.
Upon arrival at Atrazama we are, as predicted, set upon by assassins. Not the cluster of expect assassins, either, but a different group of ships hanging out nearby. Fortunately, this was a reasonably short jump; and so a generous application of fuel injectors solves that problem and a cluster of pirates quite nicely.
Atrazama was just as desperate for even cheap industrial-controller computers as we were lead to expect. While the station staff sees to loading us up with some apparently-fancy Furs and a load of the local Liquors, we check the mission boards for anything along our route and then set course for Vearin. A stop at the insurance office before we go, and we depart the station again by 2084170:11:27.
A bit of haggling and asking around at the Vearin main bar, which sees reference to our Independent Traders & Haulers Association escort record, lands us a contract to follow one Isgeusti to our next destination. Another load of Computers and Machinery we're hoping to sell at Biceises, and we're off again.
While the most notable thing to occur on the way to Biceises main station is a passing Disciple of Finangle, we also flew through what looked for all the world like a pack of pirate scooping up loot from their kill.
We arrive at Biceises main station by 2084172:01:34, and Isgeusti pays us nearly three hundred credits for saving ourselves some fuel. (Seriously, it only cost us two credits to top up.) Don't understand how this works, but apparently it does, so no complaints.
A quick scoping out of Biceises and the nearby Reerqu suggests that Reerqu might have even more demand for our load of technology, so we put off selling it and prep our engines for another jump.
We arrived at Reerqu by 2084-172:15:16, and immediately stumble across a sale on Gem-Stones. Someone must have discovered a mine or something, because Reerqu is not known for manufacturing them.
2084-173:14:51 sees us docked safely at Israra, a moderately notable ag-planet but with nothing notable to fill our holds after Reerqu.
We push on, docking at Anesce at 2084-174:07:08 and Dierbeer by 2084-174:17:55. At Dierbeer we're lucky enough to meet up with one "Queton" who is headed our way, and convoy up for the trip to Erlage. We arrive by 2084-175:02:34 and find Platinum and Gold both in high demand. We load up the hold with Computers and program the jump computer for Laceteed.

Re: Travelogue: The Hunt For Edzaar
Excellent! Thank you, case.
As indicated on Discord, I am particularly interested in the number of jumps and the travel times -- timestamps are prefect for my purposes.
If you keep this up, I plan on setting up a spreadsheet recording your progress.

Welcome to the boards!
Why Edzaar?
Is it the original dynastic home of your lineage from which you were cruelly evicted several generations ago? Do you seek to locate your lost relatives and view the ancestral manse?
While G1 is the most expanded of the Octant (followed by G7 and possibly G8), the various missions and other OXPs add-on to the lore of the other galaxies.
Here is a tentative list of what can be added:
G2: Ionics, the Isis Interstellar station, Shrews Rights
G3: Aquatics, Curse of the Black Sunspot, To Catch A Thargoid (TCAT), Rescue Stations (+Skrounk All-Stars Limited?, Benulobiweed?)
G4: Deposed mission, Love Cats mission, Trident Down, Stealth (+Xeceesian Shipyards?)
G5: Coyote's Run (+ Green Knights of Lago), Resistance Commander, Xeptatl's Sword, HIMSN (+Koneko Industries?, Starship Design Works?)
G6: Draven OXP
G7: The Assassins Guild, Victim 11, Marett Space Corporation
G8: Iron Raven
Two points on the above.
i) While the missions needs various numbers of kills to engage fully, they still colour their respective galaxies even if you do not/cannot do them
ii) In some cases the textures are very cronky (2006 vintage) and do not fit in with Griff's aesthetic. Phkb has been working on this.

Why Edzaar?
Did you buy some obscure raffle ticket from a traveling tout ... and then discover that you have won ... but need to go there in person to collect your prize?
A collection of ludicrously luminous lobstoid kneecaps whose oldest originals predate the creation of GalCop and have been the subject of benedictions and benefactions by the Witchspace Lobster in person.
Will these protect you against the tender affections of his marauding missionaries?

Did you have a tiff with your inamorata who, in a state of pique, decamped, was captured by slavers and then ended up being sold to a visiting Edzaarian tycoon who returned home with her?

Why Edzaar?
Are you a dedicated devotee of the Church of Giles the Creator? And at a ceremony in the Grand Cathedral on Tibecea you enjoyed an epiphany on approaching the Blessed Barque, with St. Phibo of Nacci instructing you to leave your home, your planet, your galaxy and make your way to Edzaar with some sacred Bemaerean Walnut saplings where a further communication would be vouchsafed you?

Re: Travelogue: The Hunt For Edzaar
Thank you!
Meta reason (or gameplay-level reason, if you prefer):
I was hoping to recreate some of the "hunting for Rexlar" experience I've read about for the original. But I know that I would not buy into it if I knew the place didn't exist -- so I asked in the Discord for a place that I deliberately knew nothing about, except that it wasn't in Chart 1 since I was just leaving there. @user suggested Edzaar, and away we went.
If anyone else wants to offer suggestions, I am happy to look for them on the side. Delivery contracts are great for getting me to run across the chart, but they're not so great for exploring.

Re: Travelogue: The Hunt For Edzaar
2084-175:10:27 has seen us proceed to Rienla. Again, nothing particularly notable. We sold a few Computers, because wow that price, and bought some weirdly cheap Gold and Gem-Stones; and moved on.
Diti by 2084-175:18:48. We purchase some Platinum, grab some always-desirable Medicine, and move on.
Esrece by 2084-176:03:17. Sold Computers, bought Furs.
Cerare by 2084-176:11:40. Nothing of note happened here.
Solaed by 2084-176:22:13. Sold Furs, bought Computers and Machinery. Great sell prices on Gold and Platinum! Nothing else happened here.
Followed a convenient wormhole to Usdive. Ambushed at the witchpoint (wormhole = bait?). Apparently they had injectors themselves, because they stayed on scanner for a while! Escaped, torus drive the rest of the way to the station, docking by 2084-177:14:51.
Met up with a somewhat-shadier-than-usual independent trader by the name of "Israenre" headed to Dixeza. But they happened to be going our way, and the money was good. We surprisingly only had to deal with four pirates, and arrived at Dixeza station by 2084-179:08:27

Re: Travelogue: The Hunt For Edzaar
SW Economy
Have you found Phkb's v.3.9.1 update for SW Economy?
He managed to adjust the agricultural prices for the mining worlds (not for medicine, though). And you will need to tweak the settings (via Library OXP's "Config for AddOns" on the F4 docked ship-station interfaces screen).
Planet Textures
Stranger's Famous Planets Overhaul improves 40-odd of the textures in G2 which PAGroove's Famous Planets OXP originally picked out. Stranger's version is better for G2 - and works with the Povray Planets G2 textures. PAGroove's version has been updated to cover G3-8 somewhat haphazardly.

Re: Travelogue: The Hunt For Edzaar
We lost an escort contract today, despite shooting down all the pirates who attacked us.
Apparently we have some sort of semi-precognitive special sauce that makes us a bit more effective than our combat rating of "Above Average" would predict at safely completing escort contracts. Wasn't enough this time, though. While we were busy mopping up some pirates, the client was fleeing from a single Krait on injectors, and by the time we caught up, was on their last legs. The Krait blew them up just after we drew a bead on them.
We got the bastard back, though. So at least there's that. Minor though it is.
Talking about refueling and whatnot at Inerra feels so pointless in comparison.
2084-179:15:44 saw us safely at Inbibe. We did not buy fuel. This star seems close enough to skim successfully, and we have enough fuel to complete the next leg of our journey even if it doesn't work.
2084-180:02:36 Fuel scooping went fine. Made it to Laribebi with no complications. Pretty standard ag-tech exchange.
Anusa by 2084-181:04:36. Shot down two pirates en route.
Vezadi by 2084-182:12:25, dodging some assassins on the way in.
2084-182:13:34 On the way in to Xeabiti, came across a band of over a dozen pirates. Fortunately, we were able to pass them through generous use of fuel injectors.
Errius by 2084-182:16:37.
Ercetidi by 2084-184:09:53. Parcel handoff completed successfully. Due to a clerical error, we had left Errius without any cargo, and there was nothing worth picking up here.
Envebe by 2084-185:22:57. Loaded up on Computers and Machinery in preparation for a longer haul.

Oh, that is an excellent suggestion. That's such a good suggestion that I'm kicking myself a bit for not doing it and it getting suggested. Started right away, and in fact went a bit overboard. You won't see that for a bit though, since the thread is a few sessions behind still.user2357 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 25, 2025 5:27 pmThanks, case. Good data. 8)

It seems that the fuel scooping at Inbibe, and either the clerical error at Ercetidi or the long-haul preparations at Envebe were somewhat anomalous among the jumps so far, resulting in significantly longer non-jump times. From the data, I have non-jump times for jump# 20, Laribebi to Anusa (after Inbibe), as 2.96h (bumping the average non-jump time from 0.55h ot 0.67h), and jump# 25, Ercetidi to Envebe, as 1.07h (compared to even the increased, final average of 0.65h). All other non-jump times are sub-0.75h.
Session 1: 9 jumps, 32.8ly, 127.36 jump-h, 4.97 non-jump-h; 3.6ly/jump, 14.15h/jump, 0.55 no-jump h/jump
Session 2: 7 jumps, 23.6ly, ..93.28 jump-h, 3.95 non-jump-h; 3.4ly/jump, 13.33h/jump, 0.56 no-jump h/jump
Session 3: 9 jumps, 31.6ly, 151.20 jump-h, 7.30 non-jump-h; 3.5ly/jump, 16.80h/jump, 0.81 no-jump h/jump
As you can probably see, I don't mind going overboard either. I'll spreadsheet the Space outta this!

I am very much interested whether or not other commanders' experiences more or less confirm these numbers, please. Thanks.

Re: Travelogue: The Hunt For Edzaar
We escorted one Seoualxea' to Errara, fighting off a handful of pirates along the way. We are safely docked by 2084-186:03:20.
Apparently we got better at combat, because despite being jumped by assassins at the witchpoint and encountering a band of pirates besides, we successfully escorted Beinno to the Arries main station. We dock by 2084-186:21:46.
We are generously assisted on our way to Edtixeen by the Cobra I The Student in Rapture. In thanks, we take on the admittedly long slow task of escorting them in to the station. This caution proves to be warranted, as we run across (and take out) a band of four pirates on the way in. We are safely docked by 2084-187:14:14.
On the way in to Isbeus, we are attacked by a pair of overconfident pirates in a Python and a Krait. We fought them off and even took down the Python, but unfortunately broke our scoops in the process and so were unable to collect any of the cargo as salvage. Fortunately, we were able to get them repaired, and work on that finished by 2084-187:23:54. We sell our computers and collect some promising-looking Liquors, and are ready to go again by 2984-187:23:56.

I think we're going to see a fair amount of us egging each other on in this thread. You've inspired another addition to the logs, which you'll notice once the thread gets caught up to "after Isonza".user2357 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 26, 2025 6:15 amAs you can probably see, I don't mind going overboard either. I'll spreadsheet the Space outta this!

I am very much interested whether or not other commanders' experiences more or less confirm these numbers, please. Thanks.

Re: Travelogue: The Hunt For Edzaar
2084-189:03:29:10 docked at Anenat
Ran into some assassins at the witchpoint. Luckily, when we ran our engines for every fraction of thrust they could give us, the assassins were not able to keep us in range without their fuel injectors. Unfortunately, none of us realized that until they had run us out of witchdrive fuel. So we had a long slow slog halfway to the station before they gave up and we were able to jump to torus drive.
The assassins must have been broadcasting dibs or something, because we passed a suspected band of pirates on the way in after running out of fuel, and they completely ignored us.
After refueling and picking up a passenger, we departed the station by 2084-189:03:53:30
2084-189:16:52:25 arrive in the Verave system

Apparently we're too stingy to use jump-gates even when they are available!
Verave is a high-tech system, so we were able to get some much-wanted repairs to damaged modules. We picked up a parcel for the north part of the chart, which will synergize fine with our current route. We also meet up with a trader headed to Ladibe, our next stop. Launch by 2084-190:01:54:25.
2084-190:09:46 or so, arrive in Ladibe and an assassin immediately fires a missile at us! It's a mad scramble to avoid them without dragging Ri's Boa into the fray. So of course it turns out that's who they're after, because as soon as they take out the Boa they start ignoring us.
On the way in we pass a string of wanted vessels meandering orthogonal to the main spacelane. Not sure what they were doing, maybe a funeral procession or something.

Ladibe is barely inhabited enough to sell fuel, and we hadn't properly prepared for that. So we load up on what we can; mostly Gold, Platinum, and Gem-Stones; and are off again by 2084-190:10:18.
2084-190:23:18 Soreisbe, despite aiming for Usceza. That caused some running around as we tried to figure out what happened!
Soreisbe is a tech-9 world, so after quite some debate and then some negotiation we were able to do a pretty extensive work-over to try and isolate the problem. We still weren't able to solve it to anyone's satisfaction, though. Eventually we simply resorted to moving on. First, though, we took some R&R, since it was greatly needed after that scare.

2084-191:08:13:56 arrive in Ersoonve. On the way in we pass the notorious Cobra III Mouse. Neither of us were looking for a fight, so we continued on our way. Docked by 2084-191:08:20, launched by 2084-191:08:44.
2084-191:19:05 docked at Teonan. There was a brief scare at the witchpoint where we mistook a group of cops for a band of pirates.
Launch by 2084-191:19:31.
