Well, the other "or something" that could be done is sod the manual user selection on the F4 screen and just push the news update right in the players face as soon as they land. Can't miss it that way!

I prefer the first (F4... "NewsFlash!!") to the second (flash on arrival). I prefer the newsflash when I want it and am ready to assimilate the information, rather than having it immediately ("hey presto!") passed through my eyes and straight into my brain without as much as an "if you so please"...

The second does not always work so well. There are a number of OXPs which already do this and they are not quite compatible with each other in terms of the immersion (docking fees/smugglers loaded with illegal goodies/...).


But that's my personal view - and I'm more than happy to defer to others with stronger views on the matter.



As a sidenote, this dumb pilot opened up the entrails of GNN and utterly failed to find anything to tweak. It's chock-full of all sorts of gubbins and there is no obvious F4 screen entry. It needs someone who knows how to look for it...

Might there be some way of bunging the GNN alert graphic on the F3/F4/F8 screens while docked?

And maybe an equivalent for e-mails, too?


I do find with Ship's Accountant OXP that I get continual financial summaries while whizzing around the F3/F4/$8 screens. Annoying, but there you go.

For GNN/e-mails it would be annoying and useful! I, myself, often forget to check both.

As you know, Docked HUDs changes its description of F4 to "EMAIL" - yes, in ALLCAPS - whenever there is unread email. So I'm going to say, YES.

No. I didn't know. All I know is what it says here. What else should it say?

Здравствуйте! Только что закончил перевод GNN, и в связи с этим есть вопрос, что делает файл `GNN_Words.js`. Остальное перевёл нормально, а тут коды перемешаны с текстом. Наверно лишнее перевёл. Думаю этот скрипт работать не будет. Хотя новости из `missiontext.plist` появляются.

GNN_Words.js is used by GNN_PhraseGen.js when building custom randomised phrases and sentences. I used it extensively in GalCop Missions to make the mission descriptions have more variety.

But, as I noted in a recent GalCop Missions post (https://bb.oolite.space/viewtopic.php?p=301630#p301630) Phrase Gen is very language specific. The way you build sentences would need to be redone for every language that requires it. Translating the words in GNN_Words.js would not fix any structural issues in sentences, and may just make things more confusing.

Fortunately, not many OXP's have made use of it. In fact, I think *I'm* the only one who has. Apart from the already mentioned GalCop Missions, I used it in Hermitage, GalCop's Most Wanted, and PlanetFall 2. The first two of these can be ignored (both in experimental/early development stages) and in PlanetFall 2 I use it for city name generation.

Ясно, благодарю, теперь стало более понятно. Такой массив данных, со специфической, индивидуальной у каждого языка, сцепкой слов, нормально перевести невозможно. Уже делал, чтобы по русски было, не понимая что перевожу.

RandomShipNames и RandomStationNames на много проще, и то на получившийся результат без слёз не глянешь... :)
