Well, it couldn't possibly be Millennium Falcon and Han Solo. They just flew around doing heroic hero stuff. We never once saw them hauling any cargo in those three movies.

It's a freighter and they started out in the (mostly illegal) cargo business. Solo's past career in this business is responsible for big chunks of the plot of the second and third films. It's good enough for me.
One to go, and no more George Lucas. Some expansion of the clues:
ATC, run by AG - Comics
PE, owned by HJF - TV

More expansion of the clues:
ATC, run by AG - Comics - does not appear to be available in Oolite. British source.
MF, piloted by HS - Millennium Falcon piloted by Han Solo
PE, owned by HJF - TV - definitely is available in Oolite. Animated series
And one more for luck
N, operated by WY - Film

Re: Science Fiction Trivia
Oh, I dunno, could it be the Nostromo, owned by the sinister Whyte Yarcowie corporation, from the 1979 film, Alien?
Oh no, I'm wrong, it was the Weyland-Yutani corporation. Well, no point for me, then.

Re: Science Fiction Trivia
It is indeed the Nostromo, which means you get the fifth answer and the chance to play quizzmaster! Yay!!!
The clues nobody got
ATC, run by AG - Comics - does not appear to be available in Oolite. British source. - Ace Trucking Company run by Ace Garp, from 2000AD
PE, owned by HJF - TV - definitely is available in Oolite. Animated series - Planet Express, owned by Hubert J Farnsworth, from Futurama
and here's the Oolite version, a pleasure to fly

And if I remember correctly I wrote the rough guide to this ship:

Re: Science Fiction Trivia
I think you drifted significantly far from the topic you set, if you'd allow the Nostromo:-ffutures wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2025 11:51 pmIt is indeed the Nostromo, which means you get the fifth answer and the chance to play quizzmaster! Yay!!!
It was plainly just a narrative device to get the characters into the otherworldly setting instantaneously, much like the TARDIS or the "transporter" in Star Trek. Do we even know what sort of trade the Nostromo was supposedly engaged in?ffutures wrote: ↑Sat Feb 08, 2025 1:06 am...stories / films / whatever about space traders - people who fly the spacelanes in ships that they own themselves, transporting cargo either for a customer or for sale, etc., whether legally or not. It must be a MAJOR part of the story, not something that is mentioned once in a while...
Some examples are painfully obvious but I really don't care!
Also, you didn't ask who, what or where Whyte Yarcowie is, so...

"There are large, white swans, and there are small, black swans," he explained, "But there are no medium-sized swans, and there are no grey swans. The non-existence of grey swans mitigates against belief in Mr Darwin's theory."

Re: Science Fiction Trivia
New topic:
It was supposed to be a warning, not an instruction manual.
We're playing in land-mine mode: you (yes, YOU) can claim the chalice at any time, by giving the obvious answer.
You can win a free t-shirt by giving any other reasonable answer.
You can win an immunity-card by giving the famous anti-example.
T-shirt prizes will inevitably be lost en-route by Australia Post.

You're alluding to his second most famous work? One point, but no poison chalice, for you.

I vaguely remember that being on TV once. When I say "vaguely", I mean that I can confirm such a movie exists - that's all.ffutures wrote: ↑Mon Mar 03, 2025 1:36 amIs it Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex* (*But Were Afraid to Ask) - 1972 Woody Allen film with some SF elements

I'm sorry, your response has thrown me for a loop; was that supposed to be a reasonable answer or the anti-example? Can you cite any instance of anyone describing that movie with, "It was supposed to be a warning, not an instruction manual"?
We'll need more information. No merit point, and no immunity point, either. Yet.
Status: pending.

Obviously a Woody Allen fan. I'm going to slap you with a demerit point just for that.
