Hello fellow space travellers.

I'm Dave, I first played Elite on my C64, then on my Amiga 500. The game is one of the pillars of my life and Oolite allows me to continue the love-in.

Thank you to everyone who has helped create Oolite and the many creative folks who have made the many fantastic OXPs which have taken the game to another level.

I have modded a few OXPs for my own in-game experience and I am here because I need some help getting a couple of OXPs to work the way I want to, namely the Ore Processor and my own modded "Temple of Groove" stations that are a variant of the "Ryan's Villa" oxp.

Hope to see you about the forums.

Dave.

Hello fellow space travellers.
Hi Dave and welcome.

Speccy veteran here but yeah, the original concept and execution were something else. Beutifully flawed in places perhpas but that too was part of the charm.

Check out the tinkerer's workshop thread (if you don't already know it) or even the scripter's cove (under 'expansion pack' section of site), both great places to ask for help as well as the thread of the relevant oxp.

More power to your energy banks,

R.

Welcome and Bienvenue! Hoping you survive the dreaded experience of the "Friendliest BB this side of Reidquat"!

What the dickens is a Temple of Groove? What does it do - and whom does it do it to? (And have you nosed around the LitF oxp? Latest alpha download is here).

Hi - returning to Oolite after an enforced break... don't think I've ever introduced myself though..

Rob - started playing Elite on the old ZX Spectrum back in the day, got all the way to deadly but never lasted the whole course..

discovered Oolite several years ago, had it installed on my PC for a good while (Windows build).

Liking the new OoliteStarter and latest builds, have the game setup with many OXPs , currently halfway through visiting everywhere in Galaxy 1..

I have hit what i think is a bug - my kill count is stuck at same number (131) - does not increase when i dock...i get the emails on the email oxp system.

Which thread do i report it on... ?

Welcome!!

Odd. Maybe try with a newer build and see if the bug vanishes. If not, then I'd be tempted to edit the save file and increment the number by one. Either way, let us know what happens.

Welcome back!

How long ago were you Ooliting? The Aegidian era (2003-6) or more recently?

On and off for about 8 years or so i would say - never inclined to get my hands dirty in OXP's , and never got beyond galaxy one - i would play for a bit then something else would grab my attention - Elite Dangerous did for a good year or so. But I always find myself heading back here - its just great catching up with old OXPs and seeing the expansions grow.

Update to kill count issue - tried saving to a different save name - same problem. Manually updating the kill count on the save file DOES work, shows up in game and on the Oolite Starter, but still no increase in the game itself... very odd. Im loathe to start again, for obvious reasons...

I wonder if I have some old remnant of OXP or something stopping it working ?? Like I said, ALL other things update fine - credits, position, cargo etc etc..

Allo! I had the same problem. There's a setting in the Bounty OXP to delay bounty reception til you go to a Galcop Office. It also seems to pause the kill count too. If you go in to the OXP config via the F4 screen, switch this setting from true to false. It was mentioned recently on the "Kill Count" bug thread.

Amyway, I'm Dave and I'm also an old fart who first played Elite on my Amstrad CPC back in the day. I last played Oolite in 2017, I used to post here too back then but I've forgotten everything! I've dug out my Deadly Jameson and am getting back into the swing of things. Looking to upgrade my Cobra Mk3 for something with a bit more punch. I wonder what the usual upgrade path is? I like to plod about systems shooting things, salvaging cargo, and occasionally doing missions or blasting Thargoids.

Been trying to figure out the big maps, all 255 nodes in their x,y locations. Can not figure which attribute(s) need tweaks to get anything like the ...GalaxyO[0-7] vector maps. Niiiice. 8)

Using ... -Kneato ... or maybe ... model=mds ... getting slightly legible maps with just a tiny subset eg. 0,19,71,75 nodes but dot wants to render what Dot Matrix plots.
Welcome to our boards!

I'm no great expert on any of this (just a dumb pilot...) but (i) the original method of working out the system descriptions and positions from Galaxy Seeds was abandoned in 2014 with Oolite v.1.80 where everything was spelled out in an easily edited .plist instead. I don't know how this fits with the time of the introduction of GraphViz to Oolite.

This may also be relevant - Light year distance calculation (2015-23)

Hello everyone, nice to be here

I decided to drop by and say hello as I've been playing Oolite on and off now for ages (mostly off, to tell the truth). I forget when exactly, but pre-shaders, pre javascript. After a particularly long break though, I'm back with a brand new Cobra and working through an attempt to visit every world in at least the first galaxy.

I've stocked up on a load of ambience and mission OXPs, thanks to phkb's excellent lists of recommendations. Nothing that changes gameplay much although Commies and Feudal States look interesting.

Back in the old, old days I played the original Acornsoft Elite on a BBC Micro. Never achieved a rank higher than Dangerous -- my preferred style of play has always been "run away, run away now". But I could dock properly, which marked me as a god among men (well, among 12-year-olds).

I've written an OXP to help experienced but cowardly pilots (me), inspired by invulnerabilty to lasers thread. Actually, I wrote it to teach myself how to write an OXP. It's a bit cheatey I suppose, but no more (imho) than eg ECM hardened missiles. It provides purchasable Energy Containment Unit equipment which temporarily ... cheat, but with deliberately restrictive requirements.

Same here except on the speccy. You could be stuck seemingly forever on 'dangerous' and I only manage to find one of the missions...

Congrats. I've not tried it yet but don't worry if it's not for everyone, not many oxps are... I think as long as you explain clearly what it does then you're covered - if folks want to 'cheat' then they will. More power to your keyboard :)

Willkommen and bienvenue!

I’ve a “welcome” pm to slide over to you when I get some decent wifi access.

As for your OXP, why not add it to the mix? Those who want it will download it, those who don’t won’t!

Love to -- who do I need to see about getting write access to the necessary bits? I have read
The All-in-One Guide to OXZ Packaging and Distribution and a bunch of wiki pages but just want to be sure the information there is current
