Any reason why the site gives me a "well fk" message from Feb 2024 and hangs for multiple auto-refreshes before firing up?

Have you tried ye ole Ctrl+F5 while your Browser is open to clear its Cache? The alternate option is to go into your Browser's Settings and have it clear the Cache every time it closes. This alternate is more convenient in the long haul but does not always clear everything the way Ctrl+F5 does.

clearing cache is obviously a solution, but it's just that the site's never done it before, and it's from yonks ago, so i've no idea why it's just started doing it now.

The forum used to be hosted by aegidian. Which means it was on his server. One day the setup broke and he was not able to restore it. That's when he put up this message.

The forum was setup on a different server and therefore has a different URL. aegidian tried to setup an auto-forward but this does not work for all URLs.

So I believe the screenshot you posted still comes from his server because you are using an outdated URL.
May I ask where you got it from? Maybe there is something we forgot to update.
