Indeed I did.

Actually I am wondering why so many people think of setting the light colors when connecting their smart homes. Possible answer is because that's what they have available.

What else could be used? Heating? Cooling? Air humidity control? Blinds? The displays/controls I was discussing with Mr Flibble require additional hardware.

But I'm wondering whether my favourite office chair can be connected to and controlled via MQTT...

That’s the mosquitto? Looks vicious! The control is via sheer palpitating terror, no?

The best smart product I have is a wi-fi-enabled kettle. They had been on the market for several years, and I was aware of them, but had resisted buying one, thinking they were pointless. When I eventually bought one, my mind was changed immediately: it's the best idea since sliced bread. I could never go back to a non-internet-connected kettle. If you don't have an app on your phone that lets you know the precise temperature of your kettle from anywhere (with internet access) in the world, you might as well be living in a cave.
In your heart, you know it's flat.

Cool! Now you can hook up your kettle to MQTT and have the precise temperature shown on your favourite HUD in any of the 8 galaxies. Not just within 7 LJ distance.
We might consider some time lag in interstellar space...

That should remind me to buy a smart wine cooler if I ever buy one. 😃

Having slept this all over I am now wondering Oolite cockpits have zero gauges for non-essential things like life support. Oxygen, cabin pressure, CO2, freshwater, edibles, ...

But we do (Giles be praised!) have pitch and roll!

Hold on a minute... are you seriously implying that the temperature of the water in Wildeblood's kettle is non-essential?

But if you want extra complication, there are the Nova Lux and Trek HUDs (and also the YAH hud - based on the Trek).

As non-essential as life support for sure.
