 I don't ruin anything. Nobody must install my textures. Normal a User download Oolite install it and see an ugly enviroment, space ships and stations. Most of the "new" players delete Oolite and forget it. They never see any oxp's.

I will finish the texturepack for myself. I don't want that anybody ruin his oxp oolite with my work.

Sorry for this

Sung, I would still like the textures you've created. :D

If somebody has decided to replace the standard textures, then finds they don't like the look of something, they can always remove them.
Just create a backup copy of the original ones!

Well for the third or forth time let me repeat that I like your textures, and that the only problem imo is with a texture called dark metal which now is anything but a dark metal.

I just find it in bad taste to release something without making the disclaimer to let people know that some of those things that suddenly look strange do so because dark metal is no longer a dark metal in your release, and not because their designers wanted them to look like that.

It would be a lot nicer if people tried to add to Oolite and show some respect for what's already there, instead of just demanding that everything else has to change to conform to the misfit texture.

A disclaimer would be the decent thing to do imo - at least let the newbies know that they might not want to replace that particular texture and to let future oxp'ers know that dark metal can no longer be trusted to display a dark metal.

Well, that's nice and encouraging.

Sung is trying to improve how Oolite can potentially look, nobody needs to add his textures in and if they encounter what they consider a problem then they can take them out again.
What you could do is alert Sung to the problem, which you have done, and give some advice, given that you yourself have added a lot to the Ooniverse and have experience of expansions, again which you have done but what I think is unfair is to start complaining about an unforseen effect of Sungs work, particularly making it sound like it is an intended effect.
Also, I doubt that expansion makers are able to take into account every potential effect that their expansion will have on others, that's why people report problems and then the expansion gets amended.

I know what your saying, but I'm sure if somebody has gone to the trouble of replacing the standard textures with the new ones, they would be aware of this.

As soon as I saw the rock hermits with the blue dock I knew it was the replacement texture, so I canged it to the one above, still didn't like it so I then decided to use both!

You must be reading a different thread to me Dr. Nil, I haven't seen anybody demanding anything like that. If you go back to Sung's first post this morning, he is asking for information to be able to see a Rock Hermit, which you helped him out with, so it sounds like he was going to look at the problem.

Exactly, give people the informed choice.

Now THAT looks good! (plus it actually looks like it was made from dark metal instead of old tanning beds)

@Uncle Reno: There's a difference between encouraging people making something pretty and keeping up the encouragement when what they do detracts from the game instead of adding to it.

I've probably told Sung that he was doing a good job and that his textures were pretty at least five times in different threads.

My first mention of a problem: "I really like what you're doing Sung. But I think you should replace the texture 'dark metal' with something more like a single plate of metal. The blue stuff you put on doesn't work good in some of the places the game and some oxps use that texture. Try for example to look at the Rock Hermit docks and the turrets of the Giant Rays in Commies to see what I mean. "

Was answered with what amounted to a take it or leave it - in which case it's because you prefer Oolite to look ugly.

My vote would be for using Snug's textures in the next release, and fixing up whichever OXPs have a problem to accomodate the new textures.

Fixing a few OXPs is a small price to pay for finally having Oolite look like it should.

David Taylor.

I second this vote. In fact, if I could enslave Sung and make him redo the textures on my ships as well, I'd do it in a second...

It is absolutely invaluable to have the ships to look as attractive as they are now starting to look! Are there many core ships still missing the new textures, btw?

I agree!

If they go native though, then an easy fix would be to change the model of the Corrolis to use "snugdarkmetal" (renaming snugs darkmetal to snugdarkmetal) in the dock and leave in the orginal dark metal.

I'd also vote for having the gritty corolis skins in as native. Two versions of the Corrolis one with Snugs textures and one with the Gritty ones. Better variety and best of both worlds. :D

@ Dr. Nil
I understand what you mean. The Problem ist that i can't change the rebuild version of Oolite. If someone want's to make a 1.7 Version of Oolite it is no problem to make different textures for anything else.
The texture pack I made is not an oxp, because i replace the original files that made by the author (I think the textures are only placeholders, so they look like). I don't know if he like this, because i change his work in a different look.
I'm working on different Game Projects. Oolite is a private Interest.
I think the best way is, that the textures are not going public as an oxp.
The next days i will finish the last textures of the basic set. But in which way they going public, i don't know.

I say it too. I don't wan't to destroy any work of anybody. The textures are my suggestion of the Elite Universe, not more..

I say they must go public first in an OXP. Everyone has a choice of installing any OXP and I _definitely_ want to have these textures in use as soon as they are all finished. There's not telling how soon Giles will come back to releasing a new version of Oolite, so it might be a long wait for those who want to use these textures.

So, any chance of enslaving you? :) The ships in my Variants are most of them original Elite ship models that just didn't make it to Oolite... (sorry, don't mean to harass you with them, but I fell in love with your textures...)

Wow, the first time I've ever come across anything vaguely approaching a cross word on the Oolite BB!

I think LBs suggestion would be the easiest to implement - rename Sung's dark metal texture to "something else" once downloaded and then in the main game shipdata file change the references to the dark metal texture for the Coriolis to point at "something else" and hey presto all should be well in the Oolite world again!

"We" can easily put something up as a read me and/or a Wiki Entry once Sung's work goes public which it must because its brilliant!

Can I just tentatively point out that everybody here is posting in English even if its not their native tongue - occassionally "misinterpretations" of what has been written are bound to occur - emoticons and italics help but its still not face to face body language and still does not get over the natural style of the writer translating from their native tongue to common English...
