As far as I understand, the recaptcha only appears on the registration page. Form data is not sent anywhere. If I correctly understand what I see in the system logs, as well as the fact that the forum mailbox has been empty for the last few days, the activity of bots undergoing registration has either disappeared or has decreased significantly.

Found another spider in the logs

what do you think? I am inclined to think that it is useless to us and is only wasting our small server with requests.
I did not say that it does not work.
I did not say it is not effective or plead for turning it off.

But Google - when verifying that you are not a bot - knows you are on this site. The user might neither know or expect this. Hence we need to tell.

I am not saying this is the best or authorative reference but you can find a plethora of such documents when looking for them:

Trendiction...
If our spider doesn't behave well (e.g. too many requests, recursive urls) please contact us so we can fix this issue!
Ahh... ain't that sweet! Kill it!
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

I don't think The Team included any direct contact details, and you can't view a profile unless you're logged-in.
How was this handled in the past?
Where could users turn to in case of forum registration or login problems?

I don't think it was handled in any way. What it needs is an oolite.space mailbox, with link displayed on the (not logged-in) index page. Then mods/admins could monitor the mailbox for users having problems (and keep it clear of spam).

I want to note that I see the mailbox from which letters are sent during registration, since recaptcha v3 was activated, there has not been a single failed letter, and before that letters with delivery errors were constantly falling in - it was clear that they were registering for fake emails.

So do we need a feedback form on index page for not logged-in?

If that's possible, it's probably the best way to do it.

in this case, from my point of view, the ideal option looks something like this: there is a feedback form that posts messages (via captcha) to a special topic on the forum, which is visible only to those who have access to the admin panel.

Such a form, guarded by recaptcha could be even better that disclosing the email address. And any forum moderator and admin could be able to see and react.
Is this possible with the forum software directly? Should we add some extension?

Yes, precisely so as not to bother with access to some mailbox.
IMHO we need to look for something similar in extensions, and then maybe tweak the code for our purposes.

<nods> Sounds good!

On the subject of extensions: is there an alternate colour scheme (dark mode) available?

User Control Panel -> Board Preferences -> My board style ?

UPD While the color and design are as they are, I started tuning on the local version, but due to my busy schedule it’s progressing slowly :(

Two more color schemes are already installed.
I tried to adjust one to more adhere to Oolite coloring but had more confusion than success. Luckily this is not mission critical.

Check https://www.phpbb.com/support/docs/en/3 ... eferences/, chapter 5.3.3.1. Global and the setting
My board style: Allows you to specify what style the board utilizes. This setting may not be available if the board administrator has selected to override users' styles.

Bliss! That's a recent addition, right?
