screenshot brightness
I sometime wonder if i have my screen brightness (too) low.
But there is a difference between how the gameplay looks and a (schift eight)/(printscreen) screenshot,
windowed or fullscreen doesnot make a difference. the screenshot doesnot show the actual brightness...
This image shows the perceived difference between my actual screen and the screenshot made...

Re: screenshot brightness
Sometimes how an image looks depends also on the viewer app used to present it. Just to cover this case, try viewing your screenshot at two or three different viewers. Is there any obvious difference then?

Re: screenshot brightness
There is a knob labelled 'brightness' on my TV, but it does not work. The show is as dull as it was before.another_commander wrote: ↑Fri Feb 02, 2024 3:57 pmSometimes how an image looks depends also on the viewer app used to present it. Re: screenshot brightness
Several applications view the screenshot the same way.
In this oolite install i use a gamma of 1.4, the moment i start oolite via terminal i can just see the windows brighten up before oolite going fullscreen.
I always thought when taking a screenshot of a any program, the screenshot utility would collect the 'raw' pixels currently shown on the screen,
like recording line-out...

Re: screenshot brightness
Current workaround seems to work
gamma to 1.0
changing this #define LIGHTSRC_AMBIENT (gl_LightModel.ambient * 1.6)
to get the look i am aiming for...

Re: screenshot brightness
I reproduced it on Windows with 1.91 and 1.90, although I am sure that this has been there for many, many past versions.
Screenshots seem to ignore the gamma game setting and are always saved as if gamma were set to 1.0.

Re: screenshot brightness
It would explain why compared to other players my screenshot sometimes looked darker because on some installs i changed gamma amongst things.
