Prohibiting fighting within the safety zone

Post by UK_Eliter »

I think it may have been said before, but I think it would be good were the player, when in the safety zone, to be told off (in the first instance) or fined (second instance) or even perhaps attacked (third instance?) for attacking offender or even perhaps fugitive ships. Ideally there would be some randomisation of a somewhat sophisticated sort about all this (e.g. not having it in anarchies) - and some nice messages. ('Leave the bad guys to us, Commander!')

One could perhaps implement the functionality within an OXP, but it would be nice to have it within the core game.

I like the idea of a demilitarized zone.

If it can be OXPed it probably should be OXPed.
But even such code could be made part of the distribution and be overridden/deactivated by those who do not like it.

I am even open for it to be implemented in the core while I would not know how to support you on that.

Definitely an interesting concept. You'd need to work out how to tweak the AI so the player doesn't get smashed by all these offenders who aren't playing by the rules.

The logic would have to work the other way: only enabled by those who want it. Which is why keeping it as an OXP would be the way forward.

What about if you are attacked first?

Are you still warned/fined/attacked yourself?

Probably warned but not fined if first attacked.

A definite exception would be Thargoids in safety zone...everyone gets to go weapons hot then, with the only exceptions being mass-destruction weapons such as q-bombs.

If oolite exploits Newtonian physics (flight adjustments or not) then...

Can a q-bomb be ejected into a docking port?

...asking for a friend

If memory serves, a station's docking slot simply eats them... no detonation. You'd have to reverse right up to the slot to test that.
What I've never managed to do is eject one into a wormhole (getting the positioning right is tricky).
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

A q-bomb will shatter and be destroyed if it bumps into a station or even probably a cargo canister before detonating, it's pretty fragile.
