Library OXP logos and images
The Library OXP comes with a lot of stuff buried within, but unfortunately the documentation is a little light on the ground with some things. I've been looking through it as I aim to integrate it with the HIMSN missions, and wanted to gather some collective knowledge on what some things might mean.
Here's what I'm looking at:
Medals:
Organisations:
Ranks:
For medals and orgs, I'm trying to establish if any of these have already been used in some way by any OXP or whatever. Organisations 21 is the Navy, but outside of that, I'm not sure. With the medals, do we know what the real names of any of these are?
With the ranks, number 8 has been used for "Captain" (Carruthers and Fortesque have both been tagged with it). Not sure of any of the others.
I appreciate that Svengali put a lot of these in to be used in anyway a developer sees fit. So, the organisation logos could be for anything. But, if something has been used before, it would be beneficial to give it an "official" name.
I also appreciate that not many OXP's (if any) have made use of these logos/icons. So, this might be a really short thread. But still - if you don't ask, you never know!

Re: Library OXP logos and images
Update: OK, found that Org image 20 seems to be related to the "Trade Guild" AND "Lave Academy", and 11 seems to be related to "GalCop", at least based on the default entries Library PAD puts in itself.

Re: Library OXP logos and images
As far as I've found, nobody ever did anything with any of this.
Svengali himself wove it into the Vanilla game missions and the Galactic Navy OXP.
The earlier equivalents in CCL were also woven into his Vector mission. And possibly his Localhero mission.
That's it.
He was going to update Vector, and include Localhero inside it. The update would have meshed with Library just as the original meshed with CCL.
He seems to have intended all this stuff as a resource for other oxps to use, so that the authors did not have to reinvent the wheel.

Re: Library OXP logos and images
So perhaps a better question is, what extant organisations/entities do we think these icons best relate to?

Org 13 could be for a dictatorship, 8 could be for a feudal.

Org 27 might be GalCop Intelligence. 10 an anarchic pirate group. 12 a knightly order.
But might it be best to cherry pick the ones you want for whatever you want them for, and then allow others to do the same?

Re: Library OXP logos and images
I guess I was hoping that our collective knowledge would reveal things that might already have a history somewhere, so those items could be documented officially for future reference, and thus when I cherry pick items from the list I’m not accidentally shooting myself in the foot by using something that was “obviously” (if I had a more comprehensive knowledge of lore and such) indicative of something else!

Can you give me a bit more detail on what you wanted to achieve? Feel free to PM me if you like.

Re: Library OXP logos and images
I would guess that dear old Svengali just scoured the web and grabbed what he could, in the hope that somebody might find it useful in the future. And it has been sitting there gathering dust since 2016.phkb wrote: ↑Thu Sep 28, 2023 8:52 amI guess I was hoping that our collective knowledge would reveal things that might already have a history somewhere, so those items could be documented officially for future reference, and thus when I cherry pick items from the list I’m not accidentally shooting myself in the foot by using something that was “obviously” (if I had a more comprehensive knowledge of lore and such) indicative of something else!
And since it looks that you and DGill are going to be the first to ever do anything with it, what the two of you decide will be what determines it all.
I truly think that for either of you two to shoot yourselves in the foot, you are going to have to take a very deliberate aim at that foot.
But no, from what I've seen of our Lore (most of it? all of it? - I know of nothing that I've missed apart from Cody's unwritten novel), there is nothing obvious there.

cbr: do you think any of the others could do with tweaking?

For HIMSN perhaps remove the Red and add the Eightstar

Re: Library OXP logos and images
Maybe we should start by listed the imagined ranks of the Navy. Here’s my stab at it (lowest to highest)
- Ensign
- Petty Officer
- Warrant Officer
- Midshipman
- Sub-Lieutenant
- Lieutenant
- Lieutenant Commander
- Commander
- Captain
- Commodore
- Rear Admiral
- Vice Admiral
- Admiral
Thoughts?

You wouldn't rather go for the Admirals of the White, Red and Blue?phkb wrote: ↑Thu Sep 28, 2023 10:22 pmMaybe we should start by listed the imagined ranks of the Navy. Here’s my stab at it (lowest to highest)
