Here's another thought to bat around: *If* a mission set was to be created for HIMSN, should it be separate to the current pack? Or just bundle it all together?

The original plan was to include missions:
Current status of HIMSN.oxp (September 2023)
Development plan

Stage 1 - Eye Candy only
•Navy units from the core ship-set. done
•Navy stations. (HQ and Outpost). done
•Basic scripting and AI behaviour. done

Stage 2 - Thargoid Interaction
•War zones with the Thargoids.
•Capital ships. done - but not yet coded to actually appear
•Yearly Parade.
•Additional stations (Navy Shipyard and maybe some mission-related type of station).
•Intelligence/Special Operations type ships (eg. production model of the Constrictor).
•AI behaviour.

Stage 3 - Missions
•Player Missions.

Happy to go with that.

Oh wait. This is all hypothetical. *waves hand* These aren’t the droids you’re looking for.

Yes! A Pathfinder squadron (with its own logo), investigating backdoor routes and other "oddities"?
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

While theorizing hypothetical missions perhaps a small insight in building missions shaped as a small tutorial could be made :?:

You mean, kind of like a dev diary? Or an actual "how to code a mission" thing? The benefit of the former is that you can see how a design can change over time as various difficulties are encountered. The benefit of the latter is that you just end up seeing the final result (ie no waffle to wade through), so you can start using whatever tools it creates straight away.

The problem with both is that it exposes some of the magic that's going on behind the scenes, and once the "trick" is revealed, you can't un-see it!

Well it could be interesting to know how to think And how to code, a mission if missions could/can extend oolite gameplay.

If mission building skills reduces ones random mission playing 'joy' then perhaps not...

Mission building risks getting hit over the head with Oolite's limitations and bugs ...or unknown conflicts with OXPs/OXZs, which kills 'joy' in almost any sense.

I like to think as a trailblazer I've stumbled on a few bugs and limitations which helped Oolite devs to fix them...so others don't have to.

But there's still a couple monsters out there -- such as trying to come up with complex convoy behavior or NPC ship behavior in general:

But!

Mission oxps can declare other oxps as "conflicting" to prevent them banjaxing the plot...

It's the unknown conflicts with OXPs/OXZs which take you by surprise, not the "planned" ones where missions know about conflicts with one another...

Cholly: if your Inbox is full (200, I think), the alternative is to move some to Saved messages.
