There was a BBC loading screen that was essentially Saturn with it's rings tilted to a diagonal and 'Elite' emblazoned above it.
Not this one, was it?

Man, that's something else!
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Really impressive design improvements for Cobra, Gecko or stations that I see.

But the more I see happening in this area, the less playable the game will become. Just because all the other ships that I see flying around are so naked - they do not make one matching and thus playable set.

Would it be possible to improve graphics on the different ships alternating? Today Cobra, tomorrow Gecko, then the Python, ...
The ships would not all look the same, but eventually they would all get touched and make up some nice game. Just be aware Oolite 1.90 comes with almost 200 ships. With expansions we have more than 8600 ships. *

And I remember to have already mentioned the logo as well...

Not everything listed as a ship actually is one. From the OoliteExpansionIndex: "3G Turret", 4x "A Seedy Space Bar", "AIS Cargo container", 3x "Abandoned Rock Hermit", "Academy Dock Ring (Hidden)", "Arc Detail", "Asteroid Billboard" & just leaving the "a"s for a second: "Backsection"!

I would guess that many of the real ships are not used (see eg. Mandoman who has some 50 ships oxps (not on the Expansions Manager), many of which contain multiple ships - and not updated since 2011-13).

I would guess that the systems ships are widely used: anarchies, feudal states, commies & dictators.

Not so sure about the others. How many will have come across the beauty of the Griff Boa and the Griff Krait? Or the lore-based significance of the Generation Ships and the Deep Space Dredgers?

But. Phkb has just put up retextures/revamps of Commies & Dictators. Anarchies was last revamped c. 2014 by Spara. And a revamp of Feudal States is currently in the hands of DGill (and Phkb did some work on textures for it).

I do think that it would be good if one of our more aesthetically aware community members could write a short piece recommending good-looking ships ("Guide to Ships oxps"?). The Expansions Manager currently has 130 ships oxz's - and that's ignoring recent major contributions such as Murgh's Iron Asses.

here's Griff's Coriolis (Burning) - 2008 - for comparison with cbr's shots of Killer Wolf's "Wreck.oxp".

Just as a matter of interest, BeeTLe BeTHLeHeM programmed closing Fire Doors inside LitF (but never implemented them).

And there is also the Station Validator OXP (Spara, 2014) which inhibits Oolite's immediate replacement of a conked-out station.
