Welcome back! Any chance of telling us a little about how things are in Russia at the moment, if you are still there?
Thanks for "welcome", yep, still there
Just came across this: https://www.economist.com/briefing/2023 ... marches-on

which I found quite fascinating!

Well, I have read it.
So, first of all, I want to say that ALL mass-media LIE.
Your media lie to you, our lie to us. Because they all under somebody control and finance, somebody whos interests they translate.
Usual people from different sides of border do not know any trues,
except cases when they can talk to each other directly and honestly.

I don't expect from this topic any good :(
People DO NOT LIKE when somebody talk things, that not agree with there point of view - this is phisiology of brains: to change our opinion - we have to restructured links between neurons, this is very hard and powerfull process - nature not like spend power. Arguments not working at all.

But if u want know something concretic - just ask.

I'd be interested in knowing where you disagree with the Economist's article, if that is a question which you feel that you can answer here! I'd also be fascinated by your views on life in Russia! What was the Covid era like?

I completely agree, the media here in the United States has not engaged in this level of pro war propaganda since World War II.
A true leader would immediately seek a diplomatic solution to this situation, yet the leadership over here seems to be hellbent on escalating this to the point that it destroys us all.
I am just a working class guy that wants to live my life without the authoritarian government interfering with everything I do and I am quite certain most of the common people of the world want the same. I believe that right now all our leaders are engaged in mafia style tactics to convince us that we need the protection they are selling.

I disagree with this, though. I remember the 1980's and it would have been impossible for the common people of Russia and America to have such a conversation as this and learn that maybe we are not so different. I believe this is the reason world leaders are so frightened that they feel they must do everything in their power to convince us that people on the other side of the world are the enemy.
I wish you all the best timer and I hope you can forgive my fellow countrymen for being so easily misled.

We are not different.
I remember "atomic arms race" USA vs USSR at my childhood... terrible shit - permanent horror.
Well - now at least we have hope to talk and understand each other )

Thanks. Problem that we all (all people in all countries) very easily fall for the hook of propaganda :(
That's why I don't see TV some last years.
If you watching TV some time - you begin ask yourself - "Why that people (behind border) still alive? There too much hunger, devastation, corruption, meetings and tyranny..." - it is equal for all tv-watchers of all countries.

No specific questions were asked, so I tried to comment on some of the theses.
Well... I hope after this post I won't become an enemy.

> Grigory Sverdlin
Before this article - I did't know - who is it. In my city I see homeless maybe 1-2 times in year.

> "Echo of Moscow", a radio and tv "Rain", a television channel
Even my friends, who listen/watch this media 1-2 years ago, now recognized, that now this is far from reality source of "trash/fake information"

> Mr Navalny’s
IMHO only for foolish schoolchildren

> The Moscow Helsinki Group
I don't know anyone who thinks that this organization acted in the interests of Russia... what we can expect from an organization that is sponsored by NED, USAID, Soros Foundation, MacArthur Foundation etc.?

> And in 2020, despite the Kremlin’s propaganda, some 60% of young Russians told Levada that they had a positive view of America.
But now they all knows what it is - HIMARS and who gives it to killing their mobilized relatives ...

> Some popular Western brands—McDonald’s, ikea—have disappeared
Well I am 42 years old, and I am NEVER visited McDonald’s... Sorry, but I prefer normal restaurants with normal food.
ikea visited once - nice shop.

> The latest victim is Liya Akhedzhakova, a famous actress who has been pushed out of the Sovremennik Theatre after 45 years.
Old crazy woman. She was just good actress in USSR, but now...

> Many opponents of Mr Putin and his war see a Ukrainian victory as the best hope for Russia.
I don't know anyone who would like war or rejoice when it began - war is terrible, it's the worst thing that can happen. But it happened... and now all Russians understand that if Russia loses in this conflict, Russia is finished.

> In the long run, the exodus of skilled workers will harm the economy. Since the start of the war Russia is estimated to have lost at least 100,000 it specialists.
The same template, for example, used about HongKong. I know some people, who "ran away" - they or stupid and did not do something useful here, or they now just remote workers and continue pay tax in Russia, some of them are already back.

> What was the Covid era like?
When was peak - we just seat at home 1-2 months. After that we weared masks.
All vaccinations were optional. Some state organizations demanded them (vaccines) for workers.
Now no one remembers Covid at all... many remember the "Covid era" as a calm, carefree time...

> I'd also be fascinated by your views on life in Russia!
So, what aspect of life are you interested in? What myths do I need to dispel?
For example, you can take google translater and see https://sdelanounas.ru/blogs/
this is a site where different people collect information about the development and production in the country
(but without adblock it hard to seen)

= = = = =

There are different points of view on the conflict and its causes...

Please don't project your opinion to all Russians.
Just fact: this war was not "happened". It was deliberate decision of Russian government to initiate this war.
We have stupid propaganda from both sides maybe, but now it is Russian army who is aggressor, not NATO.
Nazi were responsible for WWII, but after Hitler elimination Germany was not finished.
For some of us it is normal to love Mother Russia and to hate Russian Empire.
Hope we'll recover, but without Mr Putin.
