Vimana lasers missing after reinstalling
Hi,
New here - apologies if I’m posting in the wrong place. Have an issue I really hope someone can help with.
Had to reinstall Mac OS yesterday and thought reinstalling Oolite would be a cinch. Sort of was apart from the complete lack of Vimana lasers to be found in the expansion packs. As I had them
Installed fore and aft, my save game now loads with no lasers in those positions. I’ve tried all the expansion packs I can think of including the Vimana HUD. Nothing. I don’t recall installsing that HUD previously, preferring the Dangerous HUD, so would be surprised if it was that. However, I removed all packs and just tried that one. Still nothing - maybe it needs another pack to compliment it?
Any suggestions would be very much appreciated.
Thanks.

Welcome aboard, Commander!
I know zilch about Vimana thingies, and even less about Macs, but hopefully someone who does will be along soon.

Norby's 'Multiple Lasers' maybe?

Re: Vimana lasers missing after reinstalling
The Vimana HUD from the expansion pack manager should already include the lasers. Maybe you had other lasers installed?
If you open your Oolite save file and search for "forward_weapon", in the line below, there should be a string like "EQ_WEAPON_EMILITARY_LASER". If you tell us what it is for you, we might be able to find the OXP you're missing to get your lasers back.

Hi all!
Wow. Thanks so much for the replies. I’ll look into the suggestions as soon as I’m back at the machine, but wanted to acknowledge your replies, much appreciated.
Until later!

Re: Vimana lasers missing after reinstalling
Ok, thanks for the hints.
I already had the Multiple Lasers expansion pack installed (post re-install that is), so no joy there.
Looking through the most recent save file I see this for "forward_weapon":
<key>forward_weapon</key>
<string>EQ_WEAPON_NONE</string>
<key>found_system_id</key>
<string>140</string>
...which makes sense in that I don't have a weapon! An older save file (day before) shows this:
key>forward_weapon</key>
<string>EQ_WEAPON_VIMANA_BEAM</string>
<key>found_system_id</key>
<string>140</string>
So I think by loading the save file and it being unable to find the reference, it's knocked out the value for that element (hence "none"). I haven't opened the save file that still specifies Vimana Beam, so that remains intact.
A three pipe problem
Thanks all,
Steve

Re: Vimana lasers missing after reinstalling
The only OXP currently includes this laser is Vimana HUD so your lasers should be back after you installed this package.CygnusX-1 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 18, 2021 12:19 pmOk, thanks for the hints.

So perhaps (re)install that pack, then load up a save game that hasn't had the setting knocked out and hopefully it will recognise them again. I'll try a few variations and report back.
Interesting that I travelled to a tech 14 planet in case I could repurchase them and they weren't available as an option - again maybe they're higher tech level offerings than 14 though.
Thanks again,
Steve

<chortles> Come Watson, the game's afoot!
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

Re: Vimana lasers missing after reinstalling
You could do a shortcut, after installing the package just add the lasers again to your save. I would suggest making a backup first, but I did the same procedure a lot of times when I intended to test a weapon and was too lazy to fly to the correct TechLevel.CygnusX-1 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 18, 2021 1:14 pmThanks for confirming, I must've gone an an expansion pack frenzy at some point and installed it!

Are you quite sure that you don't have Weapon Laws installed...CygnusX-1 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 18, 2021 1:14 pmThanks for confirming, I must've gone an an expansion pack frenzy at some point and installed it!montana05 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 18, 2021 1:05 pmThe only OXP currently includes this laser is Vimana HUD so your lasers should be back after you installed this package.CygnusX-1 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 18, 2021 12:19 pmOk, thanks for the hints.

Re: Vimana lasers missing after reinstalling
Success!
Quite right about the Vimana HUD; adding that and then switching to the Dangerous HUD was the route, and also not loading a save that had previously had the element knocked out.
I clearly did have the V HUD once, and replaced it with the Dangerous HUD at some point - completely forgotten that (I blame Covid!). But on reinstall just slapping these packs on randomly is not the way to go! Lesson learnt.
Thanks all for the help and support. Back to wheeling through the galaxy
