It can also be player-selected, to mark a particular system for some reason. Go F6/F6 Find Planet/enter planet name - that will put the green square on it, then select a different target system with mouse or cursor keys, and the green square will remain where it was.
1) How does one de-select it?

2) whose was the original decision to remove the feature? Cim's?

1) Enter another planet's name (or even just one letter), then re-select your target system.
2) If memory serves, it was unintentional, during an upgrade, and was before cim's time.

As I said, I seemed to be the only one using it.
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills

This one here, I presume.

Do you prefer Cody's Box or Cody's Square?

And what legend do you want behind it?

"The dastardly villain Cody the Curmudgeonly bamboozled his software engineers to introduce a blood-red square onto the F6 Long Range Chart for his route planning... this was eventually turned green by the Long Range Chart specialist division of Williams Avionics who renamed it as the Rhomboid Route-Marker VG337a."

<chortles> How did you dig that old thread up, Cholly? I clearly mis-remembered the details, but it was a long time ago!
I caused Kaks, and later kanthoney, some headaches with chart stuff over the years - but they always came through!

Oh, I think I prefer Square. Any legend you like, amigo!

<wanders away, scratching head> Using a feature that didn't exist? WTF!

Hi Cholmondely

..thats no critism of your (great ) work!!!!!
i have seen what you are doing ( here should be a "respect" smily )
Thank you.

There have been three major aspects I suppose: (i) making sure all the oxz's are listed, (ii) listing all the obscure forgotten oxp's, and finally (iii) writing about the lore. Hiran made the first possible and easy - without him, I'd be slowly, slowly toiling away, downloading every single jolly oxz, one by one - and not enjoying it very much either. Without his Index/html dump, I'd never have gotten very far with the second as I felt uneasy about doing too much with the oxp's without finishing the first, which I judge to be more important for newcomers.

Do you know about his multi-user project (Oolite Communicator)? Trying to introduce communication between players? He's still sorting out teething problems with the AppleMac and Windows versions, but I understand that the Linux version is up and running...

If anybody is interested, he still needs another one or two test pilots... the rates are good, conditions excellent, and friendly banter and cameraderie thrown in for free..

Actually the code runs fine on either operating system. What we are struggling with is the configuration on the Apple Mac as I never used a MacOS and thus cannot tell directly what needs to be done. On Linux and Windows this is no issue for me.

And this is absolutely true. Testing multiplayer functionality is not very reasonable for one one or two players. The surprising part for me is that according to the pinned multiplayer thread it seemed to be a well known and much desired feature of the game. Now that the first hurdles have been taken let's see whether it is as much fun as we all thought it to be...
