But having said that, if I had your linguistic capabilities, I'd start off with one of the older language packs (since the newer versions of Oolite added to the old, so any translations there will not be wasted).
I've found French and german localization, but I speak only english, so... i need original english files, i didn't find those..
Actually, thinking about it, Redspear, Tsoj & Milo have also been nosing around the core game programming.
Look for descriptions.plist, equipment.plist, hud.plist, missiontext.plist, planetinfo.plist and potentially speech_pronunciation_guide.plist. All these files contain translatable strings. To d/l those, click on each file, click the "Raw" button in the next screen and copy/paste to a text editor.
Descriptions.plist is the main strings file, so you can start there. Note that the section titled "system_description" does not need to be translated because we don't use it anymore (which is fantastic news btw, because otherwise this would have been a source of madness for those working on localizations).

Was this your idea, O mighty manipulator of Italian Idioms?
And, I am utterly perplexed why someone lucky enough to be Greek would produce an Italian translation: Were you really trying for Latin but got the wrong millennium?
Just to say, when I do play, the AppleMac does your graphics work proud. I don't have your photographic flair, but just looking at what is on the screen is very enjoyable... I just wish I could be there in person...

No, it was cim's.

Sometimes seemingly complex things have simple explanations. In this case, I lived in Italy for 16 years and those early translations were made during my time there. Translating Oolite to Greek was never in my plans because a) it would be hard and b) I felt it just wouldn't look right.
