A shipyard Request

Post by milinks »

Hello to all, ive not been around much over the last few months on here. Broken spine and hospitals have got in the way...How is it that you can can eat a big mac for 10 minutes, while updating Oolite, but be bedded down in a hospital for two months and no one understands the withdrawl symptoms of OOLITE.. isis!!

Anyway, what i was pondering, is that over the last year i have created many missions, many stations, and many ships that i have either completed, or have lost interest in, due to creating other things.

I will post the completed things shortly that i have done, such as new ships, i very bling death star which does a lot lol and other bits and pieces. the thing i am talking about is that i have created lots of code which i am sure would be of help to new kids and kidesses on the block. I think that we should all share what we have to create something better, and if somone can improve or complete things i have done then it cannot be a waste. with about 100 Meg of code alone that i have sat idle, what do people think about creating a seperate post, either here or at Oosat so that we can post unfinished bits and pieces, either graphics or code, so that others can take up where we left off. For about a year ive had pda on oolite that is similar to Blade Runner with moving images that i wante dto use but never got round to. I know there are so many others in the same spot. So why dont we create a shipyard or work in progress section that we can post these.

I apologise if this has already been mentioned but this is the first time in months that i have been able to log on to here. I hope that when i post some of my stuff that you understand what i mean.

By the way, Happy New Year to all that have kept this going. Giles, thankyou for giving us all a forum for our obsessions. A-H, Ryxe, Selezen, Murgh, Littlebear, Winston and Ahruman amongst many others, i tip my hat for your enthusiasm and commitment.

If you're reading this, then your interested in Oolite, so pat youserlves on the back for making this work. Happy New Year to you all!!

 Ouch! Broken spine! You need to be better strapped in your chair commander when those laser blasts start coming in :) Hoping that your post means that you're on the mend and that all will be well?

I'm pretty new to Oolite but have seen some of your great work and seen how others have used some of your other stuff to great effect (isn't LB waiting for your Death Star for Assassins?) - I think a general area for "not quite finished" stuff is a great idea - it will give some of the great oxp'ers a chance to get away from "blank sheet syndrome" and let us noobies possibly pick up some of the smaller stuff so that we can get better and keep the Oolite ball very definitely rolling.

A Yahoo group was created back in the day, when the TOG was started, where people could upload their work in progress etc: http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/TionislaGY.

It makes mention of another more generic group but I don't have a reference to that.

Nice to here from you again Milinks, really sorry to here about your health problems. But I loved the Urtura teasers and that mission you were planing seemed magnificant. Post it, even if it isn't perfect! 8) (see Assassins!)

@HD Nap A_H started the deathstar, the master Milkinks started some massive multi-mission pack that made Assassins look like a girl's project! Would be cool to see it, even if WIP or unfinished!

Fractured spine, ouch! Not a good way to spend the holidays. Hope you're on the mend now though. And as for the withdrawal symptoms, I fully sympathise. I was away from the old compy for seven days and I had mild Oolite-withdrawal. Usual symptoms: restlessness, itchy fingers and hands automatically resting in your key-mapped positions, dreaming about docking or combat. Or maybe that's just me.

I think that a WIP (shipyard) would be interesting for those budding and practicing OXPers, both as inspiration towards their own expansions and as collaborative efforts when someone runs out of 'steam' or gets caught up on another project (or real life). I couldn't make much use of it mind, I have enough trouble studying to be a nurse to learn a language (OXPing). It would be interesting to see the result of a collaborative effort, such as LB's Assassins.oxp.

Hey, thanks for the mention, milinks. Been kinda busy lately and my Oolite hat has been slipping.

Fear not though! I shall return! At the moment my laptop is ill and I have had to remove Oolite from my work computer so I have no access to a decent machine to run it on. My wife's computer is devoid of 3D graphics card so might not be able to run Oolite very well (and she probably won't let me install it anyway) so the game-playing front is suffering too.

A broken spine sounds like hell. However, I hope you were doing something you enjoy when you broke it!

Get well, Milinks!

Ouch, man, that really su***!

re: the yahoo groups, it isn't that great a place when you are really doing things, with TOGY we often got frustrated because we reached the up/download limits fairly easily and then had to just sit and wait 'till we could do things again. There might be better options, any ideas for alternatives?

Hi

Sorry to hear about your back.

I like the idea of a common place for unfinished projects. Of course some of them could also be worked on from here, since it's possible to link to files uploaded to places like boxnet, imageshack etc. But it would make it a lot easier if there just was one common place where one could go look for something to fiddle with.

In these days of free 2GB mail accounts it should be possible to get a decent sized free account for some equivalent to Yahoo Groups.

Does anybody know what happened to either version of the Death Star mentioned above and below?
"i very bling death star which does a lot"
"@HD Nap A_H started the deathstar" (below)

Or what this means: "ive had pda on oolite that is similar to Blade Runner with moving images that i wanted to use but never got round to"
