Griff's Glowroids

Glowmoss, they call it. Little is known about it, other than it's an organic lifeform perfectly adapted to living in vacuum. It's found on asteroids, and once it gets a hold, it's very difficult to eradicate, hence its other name – Hermit's Bane. As an alien lifeform, some say it should be protected – but try telling that to a rock hermit. Undeniably attractive to the eye as it flows and changes colour, whatever it uses to break down the rock it feeds on is highly corrosive, which makes studying it difficult, if not impossible. There are tales told of it eating its way through hull plating, and it seems particularly attracted to copper. But that's only old spacers' talk, which exobiologists dismiss as fanciful.

Griff's Glowroids is now available from the in-game expansions manager, and from the Wiki.
The original OXP (v1.0), which contains no enhancements, is available here.

My thanks to Griff for allowing me to put it out there. It's pure eye-candy of the highest order!

In the shipdata file the depreciated shininess setting is still in use. Much improvement could be made by updating this to the newer gloss setting. For older OXPs created before the gloss setting was in use a bit of experimentation on my part has found that gloss = 0.75 works fairly well in punching things up to a desirable level. Your mileage may vary.

Yes - this is basically what was posted over in another recently updated thread but it still holds true here as well. Why reinvent the wheel.

Thanks, Nite Owl. If I get the urge, I'll maybe have a tinker - but I'm a little preoccupied at the moment.
Griff's Glowroids have adorned my ooniverse for nine years. It's good to see them out there at last.

Improvements are ongoing!
After some pm’s with Cody V 1.02 is up now:

added "gloss" to the materials (all credits to Nite Owl)
reduced the chance to appear following Cody's lore
some more entries at shipdata.plist for better synchronization with other OXP's
added individual role for every entity

<chortles> Hermit's Bane! That needs to be a Griff hermit, methinks!

In my Spicy Hermits, there are abandoned hermits out there. Piñatas, if you wish, since they can be monetized by destroying them. Maybe this is what has happened.

The intention is for them to be rare, and for some to be abandoned perhaps.
As for what may be inside, perhaps glowmoss can eat through hull plating.

Has anybody done a study of the interaction between Trumbles & Glowroids? It seems like a fruitful area of study!

I remember a politics lecturer telling the story of his granddaughter putting slugs and snails together in a box and coming back to find that the snails had been eaten!
