ZOOOOM!
After recently playing the very excellent MMORPG Vendetta Online, i noticed one thing, besides the ability to go up-down-side-side.......ZOOM! you can zoom your targeting reticle to the point that it is pointing to....this would be excellent to add to Oolite simply not as something to make it easy, but from the point of view...in a advanced solar system with space ships aliens, trans world and galaxy warp powers, and lasers, u cant even install a freaking zoom capable system to your targeting!....its just a thought, and doesnt seem that hard to code...certainly would help when trying to get the positive target lock on that little Asp Mk II in the distance, or frag that fleeing GalCop Viper Mark II

That could be nice. And then with the option to use a separate button to fire the laser pointing in the opposite direction to where you're lookingMango wrote:Last time I played Oolite, I thought "It'd be good to have a zoom mode!
Now you mention screen effects, maybe there should also be a rear vision mirror at the top of the screen!

I like the idea of a gun camera zoom.
Just for simplicity's sake, link the camera zoom to the scanner zoom - controlled by the same key, the view gets magnified along with scanner resolution.
Sure, long range blips get dialed off the scanner that way, but that's the neccessary negative. At least you don't lose target lock.

Quake 3 and its TC Urban Terror both have zoomed sights - I mention these games specifically because ID has made most of the game open source and its written using OpenGL so perhaps some clever programmer types might be able to pick through the code and see how its done (as well as walking on water and curing the sick )
