Scarce information pending contracts?

Post by RGVV »

Good day,

Have done some first parcel and passenger contracts. I noticed that as soon as you accept a contract there's no information, for example in the <F5> or <F8> screen, that you have a parcel or passenger on board.

The only visible cue you have is in the <F6> screen where the eventual planet of destination is marked with a symbol. Is this indeed the only hint or am I overlooking something?

Furthermore, what I did, is write down the planet jumps from the <F6> screen as I didn't see any further automation in this, like, that after a jump automatically the next jump is selected in the <F6> screen or something - with other words: you have to remember the planned jump sequence by mind. Am I right or am I overlooking something here too?

Thanks! :D

Best,

Robert.

Pencil and paper are always a good idea but you can also F5-F5 (F5 twice) to bring up your ship's manifest which should contain more information on your contracts. Have a look around in the folder in which Oolite got installed. In there should be a PDF with a name similar to "Oolite Reference Sheet". Probably renamed mine a while ago but the key words you are looking for are "Reference Sheet". Print that out and keep it handy while playing as it will answer many, many questions when you are first learning the ins and outs of the game.

Always choose the quickest route - due to the quirks of interstellar travel, mutliple short jumps are quicker than longer jumps. With contracts, you have to build your rep in order to get offered the sweeter contracts. Always dock manually, it saves time!
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Thanks Cody. I've done 1 parcel contract and some 6 passenger contracts now (downgraded the Cobra Mark III to a Cobra Mark I with 1 passenger berth among other bells and whistles). Had to do a detour from the advised route with one of the passenger contracts this morning due to an impregnable anarchy where merciless pirats kept showing up. Did finish the contract in time luckily. :D
