#4 - the main hero gets to see himself (both in the future - unknowingly - and in the past)

(hint 5 will be the last; if no answer, will pass this back to someone else)

Hyperion by Dan Simmons?
By wikipedia: "Dan Simmons [...] is an American science fiction and horror writer."

Hints:
#1 - the book is translated to English.
Commander_X wrote: Fri Apr 17, 2020 3:36 pm
[bonus hint] #1.01 - the author "is guilty" (as some more traditional Englishmen would call his nation :) )
... this very likely doesn't seem to match :(

Is that the dead horse that got flogged back into life.

"I think this one is dead, Jim", said Bones, holding up part of a head clad in the remains of a red shirt.

Shooting aliens for fun and ... well, more fun.
"Speaking as an outsider, what do you think of the human race?" (John Cooper Clark - "I married a Space Alien")

Ok, time's up, it was the book The Overlords Of War by the French author Gérard Klein.

Who volunteers for next?

No takers?

If I were to pass it, it would be back to Big D, unless until his reply nobody picks it ...

Well, I've got another "five of …" question if people want to give it a go:

Name five stories (films, TV, books, etc.) where people travel through time and meet older or younger versions of themselves. There should be some sort of interaction - not e.g. just seeing themselves going past on a bus. No more than one example per author/universe.

Doctor Who - all of the multiple Doctor episodes etc.

The Man Who Folded Himself by David Gerrold - essentially the whole novel has one character, who is often present in multiple instances.

All You Zombies by Robert A. Heinlein - male and female versions of the main (hermaphroditic and transexual) main character meet via time travel and have sex, the female version has a baby that becomes the young version of both of them.

All good examples … one more takes the pot!

I was thinking of Quantum Leap but he doesnt actually meet himself rather he (Sam) jumps into an older version of himself.

And of course there are a few Red Dwarf episodes with time travel and the crew meeting themselves, for example Ouroboros.

One or other of those will do … over to you for the next question!
