Forum update

Post by Cody »

We seem to have had an anonymous php/database update. Different, certainly!
I would advise stilts for the quagmires, and camels for the snowy hills
And any survivors, their debts I will certainly pay. There's always a way!

Please let me enjoy my first quote showing a name at the top of the box :)
I sincerely hope that by "anonymous update" you mean unannounced, and not like in "done by Anonymous" (as in the organization)

Yes, I noticed Quotes were working again. I need to check the Code and Wiki buttons - perhaps they're working again too.
As for Anonymous, that's how it's listed in the Admin logs. That probably means it was an auto-update.

Oh, if by Admin logs you mean the forum Admin logs, then it could be because the user doing the update is not registered as a forum user (which is to be expected).

I can hear you, a bit too "boxy" when compared with the old look.
... And there are things to get used with -- e.g. "Active topics" hidden under "Quick links".
There are good things too, though, the first I was happy with being the way "Show your posts" are displayed in the "User Control Panel".
:!: Maybe a poll about the theme (guess it comes with some, or they can be installed, at least) for the forum would be called.

Well, a quick google for "phpBB themes", puts the first link (for me), as this. You can preview a bunch of themes/styles for the forum, if you select Styles Demo for phpBB link in that page. The default one (we have here) seems to be called "prosilver".

... And it turns that there is a downloadable theme quite similar with the previous incarnation, called "Allan Style - SUBSILVER" here (can be selected in the "Select a style" drop down).

Once upon a time, there was a drop-down menu for forum styles in the UCP, but it contained no alternatives.

I rather like the Carbon style, but it'd be down to Giles to install new styles (if possible). Giles...

On the good news side, it is much more mobile friendly.

Depends on what it means to you. With the theme from the old version I could see the complete list of forums with status information (new posts yes/no) on one page without scrolling on my phone, now it takes quite precisely two pages with scrolling.

A more condensed theme as a choice would be highly welcome.

Otherwise: thank you for updating the forum software! :)

{sarcasm}Whoopee!{/sarcasm}

Really can't see that as a feature when someone looking at this site is more likely than not looking for something related to the game, and hence probably is using a computer, not a phone. I wouldn't object to that as an option, but it's not particularly easy to read on a computer screen, I think it's expecting a vertically aligned screen.
