Added Pi-47 and made some minor changes too.

HD-ADX Dropped the idea of using subentities for placing ads and chose to use texture mapping instead - it gives a lot less flickering. Also scaled the Navigational Buoy Terascreens down to 50%

Just tried the new version. Textures are fine, but no boards are appearing. Haven't really had much of a look at the code, but the script doesn't seem to be adding any.

I thought all graphics had to be .png. I really don't know if it would work.Judebert wrote:Can they be animated GIFs?
It's only the corpies that have the Nav-buoy version atm. Accidents are good for business. We wouldn't want the shipyards or the insurance companies to go out of business. I also resized it to 50% (it looks one fourth of the size head on).Ramirez wrote:Just need to make sure that the advertising doesn't prevent the buoy being used properly.
I like the 'East Asian spam' billboards - it's a cliche I know but the oriental style would fit particularly well with the corporate states. Another idea for the 'Flavour Expansions' thread...
Sounds like a fitting description. What you put into Google I got from Babelsfish - probably doesn't make it any betterstevesims wrote:So instead in order to kill some time here at work I decided to try getting Google Translate to tell me a translation of the Korean advert text. Apparently "?? ??? ?? ??" means "Degradation life hazard evil Oh".
The tough part will probably be writing the routine that makes digital character recoqnition of decorative styles mixed into graphics in all the different alphabets and changes it to the desired character set and does a replace with the desired target language while figuring out to make the background graphics which were not in the original - all in real time. It makes the first small task of improving Google's and Altavistas up to 32nd Century standards sound easylolwhites wrote:By the 32nd Century, wouldn't HUDs be able to translate and display billboards in the pilot's native language?
Are you questioning the marketing strategy of AD-X CorpJudebert wrote:Just out of curiosity... is there a reason that only 10 slots are left? Couldn't we just add more entries to shipdata.plist?
Well it's because that way I dont have to edit anything but the .pngs as they come in once the plists and data files are finished. If there's enough ideas, I'll do a rotation set of graphics with them.
Where did you look? The ads are added through roles as buoys. As explained in the readme.txt they don't replace every buoy. Due to their price the huge witchpoint buoy version is only risked being placed in the most well policed systems and due to traffic hazards the smaller (app. 22k") Navigational Buoy version is only used in Corporate States. And even then I awarded them roles values which still allow for the original buoys to make appearances now and then, when the screeens are being replaced or off to more thorough repairs.LittleBear wrote:Just tried the new version. Pi-47 (the only entity in the script) still only find it profitable to operate in Corporate States with more than 5bn inhabitants.
But if you're in G4 like I am with my real game, you'll only see the big (44,017") Terascreens which will then be at the witchpoints in Democracies and Confederacies - There are no corpies in G4! I had to do a lot of flying Commander Jameson with 100cr and a pulse laser armed MK-III from Lave to Zaonce for testing

Thinking outside the box, (ha ha) how about a polygonal billboard, rather than 2 flat sides? It would work nice as a nav buoy, spinning along a single axis. Or we could go even further, make a polygonal ball-like board visible from all 4 sides - though it should look different from the station. My 3d modelling skills aren't too good, any takers? If anyone wants to play with my primitive meshworks files, just ask.

I did consider it at the very beginning, but decided not to do one - but I actually reconsider this after starting to use texture mapping instead of subentities for placing the ads.

I don’t think PNG is required, although it may depend on platform. However, I do know that there is no support for animated textures. (Well, the development build supports shaders.)Dr.-SPACE-Nil wrote:I thought all graphics had to be .png. I really don't know if it would work.Judebert wrote:Can they be animated GIFs?

Didn't realise you made them rarer. How about a shot out screen for Anarchy systems:-
(Pixilated a bit in re-sizing. Will have another go at this one, if you think the idea is ok).

Room for something simple and silly?
Hi,
only discovered OOlite a week ago (and therefore have done little else except recapture my youth since). I came across your fantastic OXP and thought I might offer my own creation. It's plain and simple and silly (somewhat like its creator) and not half as good as some of those you've already included but I though I'd offer it up all the same.
I hope you like.
Cheers,
John

Accidents happen all over the place, so I put it in the basic set. Then somebody can always use it specifically for modding a system that has recently seen better days. It came out fine on the screen, I think.LittleBear wrote:

Hi. It's good to see somebody adding to the Ooniverse after only a week. It looks nice and captures the feel of this expansion well. Don't be shy about adding others if you've got more coming.DaddyHoggy wrote:Hi,

I just made a couple of rather silly ones too.
