Ace\56's ships
I'm looking to update Ace\56's ships, the Cruzer, the Hornet and the Night Adder, but I was wondering: should I do them as individual OXP's, or combine them into one pack? What do you think?
Re: Ace\56's ships
Hi phkb,
personally, I select my ships oxps depending on their looks. It breaks credibility when a polygon-shaped ships is presented near a Griff ship...
Or, sometimes not on their looks but on some other reason. For example, I like the DTT line, but I really prefer to do without the zeppelin. Too anachronistic for me, no engineer-level reason for existence, and so on. (As bad a steampunk for me, and it's saying a lot.)
So, what I mean is I prefer to be able to select ships individually.

Re: Ace\56's ships
I think it depends on whether they 'go together', in other words together do they form a set that makes sense.
If they all have a similar feel/look to them, and they are spec'd similarly then they would probably make a good set. Those which do not 'fit' either due to size, look or spec. would probably be best done as stand-alones. When I mention the spec, what I mean is are they spec'd similarly to core-game ships or are they a bit uber - that sort of thing.
Personally, I wouldn't worry too much about whether they fit into a 'Griff' universe, or a DTT or Classic or Neolite universe or whatever. You won't please all the people all the time, and frankly as long as they look good they will be fine for most.

Re: Ace\56's ships
I welcome the idea in either form. Based on lookout or strength these can be together.
Based on usability these are different ships, like Boa, Cobra3 and Adder with better stats.
I like Night Adder due to fit into the side mini slots of [wiki]EscortDeck[/wiki].
Better for this job than Ophidian in [wiki]EscortPack[/wiki] due to the smaller size.

In your heart, you know it's flat.

Yeah, that's what I've decided.Wildeblood wrote:Separate.
I was going to adjust the specs a bit. The Cruzer is extremely sluggish and slow in the current incarnation, and the Hornet has too much cargo space (its hull design would leave no room for 20t). I also don't think there should be 15t of extra cargo space option for any of them (the Cruzer's 200t doesn't need it, and the other two wouldn't have space for 15t).
I was also going to adjust the NPC roles to match the ships Norby mentioned, although I'd appreciate any feedback on these role changes. Here's what I have:
Cruzer:
trader(0.25) trader-courier(0.05) ace_ship1 ace_ships
Cruzer Alt:
pirate-heavy-freighter(0.2) ace_ship1 ace_ships ace_ships
Hornet:
trader(0.375) trader-courier(0.1) trader-smuggler(0.35) hunter-medium(0.2) pirate-heavy-fighter pirate-interceptor(0.15) pirate-aegis-raider(0.1) scavenger(0.5) sunskim-trader(0.5) ace_ship2 ace_ships
Hornet Alt:
pirate-light-freighter(0.5) pirate-medium-freighter(0.1) trader(0.175) hunter-heavy(0.5) escort-heavy(0.15) hermit-ship(0.5) sunskim-trader(0.5) assassin-medium(0.5) ace_ship2 ace_ships
Night Adder:
trader-courier(0.5) pirate(0.5) pirate-light-fighter(0.35) hunter(0.2) escort(0.15) assassin-light(0.5) ace_ship3 ace_ships
Night Adder Alt:
hunter(0.5) hermit-ship(0.5) pirate(0.5) ace_ship3 ace_ships
Edit: I've uploaded these to the Wiki and download manager now. I've added a wiki page dedicated to the ships, and added a little bit of a back story. http://wiki.alioth.net/index.php/Ace_Ships. Let me know if you spot anything that needs correction.

Re: Ace\56's ships
Updates have been published for the Cruzer, Hornet and Night Adder. The Cruzer and Night Adder have some additional paint jobs, and all three have some small issues resolved for the player version of each ship.
However, please note, because of a change in the identifier for each OXP (required to resolve some unidentified issues on Mac systems), these packs will not show as updates to existing players. You will need to manually remove the old packs, and then install these new ones. My apologies for the inconvenience!
The Night Adder can now also be added to an Escort Deck with the following add on: NightAdder_EscortDeck.oxz.

Yes thank you so much, and it works great. Love being able to dictate what equipment I have on my escort fighters.
